My friend’s motel

  • Posted on January 30, 2011 at 8:56 am

My dear friend Lynn has decided to “modernize” her motel. It’s a great place to go and I grew up around where the motel is. Right on two a joining lakes up here in Michigan. In the front of the building, she has ten rooms that are good size, with of course bathrooms. In the back of the building, there are 12 actual apartments, that are totally furnished…complete with everything a person would need. She stocks those with even tin foil, pots, pans, silverware, dishes, dish drainers…name it. All you have to do is pack your clothes and stop at the grocery store and “move in”. It’s a beautiful setting also. There is an upper level and a lower level of apartments, with a sloping hill that leads down to the beach and lake. There are rowboats and pontoon boats, which I love, to take out. A grilling and picnic area and even a shallow docked in area for little kids. I love going up there.

When I last visited my friend, she told me she wanted to install cable in all the rooms, with the phone service and internet service all wrapped up into one and also in her home, which is right on the motel property, but is actually a very large five bedroom house. She wanted to hire a Structured Cabling Contractor to do this job, as it indeed is a big chore and she wanted a reliable company to do this. From what she had told me, in the past she had tried to hire locals to do all of this and they totally botched the job to the big time. She ended up out of a lot of money and not even internet service in most of the rooms or apartments.

When she told me about a Structured Cabling Contractor, this past summer I thought it was a great idea, personally. I hadn’t been able to take my laptop up to the lake when I stayed and had to use her’s which didn’t have the greatest service and no one actually was happy with it in her household. She has a lot of business people come through and stay, and also Michigan International Speedway is about four miles from her place, which brings in full to capacity business all through May and August. These people need cable and internet in their businesses.

I talked to my friend a few weeks ago, and she said that by hiring the Structured Cabling Contractor, not only was she totally satisfied with the job that was done, but it saved her a lot of money and she expects a very good season this summer as far as business in her place goes. And on the up side…on my part… I don’t have to use her computer anymore! :)

Birthday weekend

  • Posted on January 28, 2011 at 8:51 am

I might be MIA this weekend, depending on what my laptop does when I go to my Mom’s house with my daughter for my birthday in a little while. It’ll be nice to spend the time with Mom and Ivy though. Peace and quiet and haven’t got anything planned at all. My twin sister can’t be there, due to her husband having cancer, and I’ll miss her greatly. We’ll no doubt do some shopping, as there are many more shops and stores there than there are here. But actually, what I’m looking forward to, is the quiet and relaxation and peace I feel when I’m back, “home”.

The Ted Williams saga

  • Posted on January 25, 2011 at 8:25 am

I have an apology to make to a few people who I thought were wrong for not believing that “The man with the Golden Voice”, could change his whole life around once discovered, when he was on the streets, into drugs and all the other trouble he had been in. I really thought that he had not gotten the support from his mother that he needed and she was rather harsh with the disbelieving in him to stick to trying to get his life together and not slipping back into drugs and booze. I was wrong about this. He was given chances and support that a whole lot of people can only imagine and pray for. And he blew it all. Or at least has so far.

I’ve been following his story, including watching the help Dr. Phil tried to give him and think to myself…what a total waste of time and money. Ted Williams never gave it a chance and worked for it. He went to an  excellent rehab center none of us “normal” hard working folks could ever begin to afford… and blew it. Walked away after not even two weeks into the healing.  SO, of course I’ll continue to watch or read about his progress or lack of, but no longer to I have the same feelings of encouragement I did before. It’s sad to waste such talent.

Another Dr. appointment

  • Posted on January 25, 2011 at 8:10 am

This morning I have another appointment with my doctor. As usual he will order the series of blood work I normally have to get and check on my lungs to see if this darn pneumonia is gone or not. I have to talk to him about starting an exercise routine that won’t be too much for me and my little bod to handle. I’d say I’m doing this to get ready to wear a two piece bathing suit come summer, but this isn’t the case. I gave up on those a long time ago, except when I’m out in my back yard where no one except the birds can see me. The kids and husband don’t count, since bless their hearts…don’t actually pay any attention. I do how ever want to check with Doc to see if I can start on a more rigorous fitness program. I think I’ll feel a lot better once I do.

Copy cat

I affectionately name my computers and office equipment, even my pencil sharpener. An odd quirk I admit, but one no one really has ever brought that to my attention, so I continue to do so. I have an old Dell printer who I named Copy Cat when I first got it. Okay, not very original I know, but it does copy and print out what I need it to and it’s like a dependable old friend. Because of it’s age it’s hard to get Dell printer ink for Copy Cat’s model. Seeing how we live somewhat in the “boonies” and have to go into the bigger town a few miles away, isn’t really a problem, but the stores there are rather limited. There is one office supply store that used to carry my Dell ink, but it stopped stocking it, due to it being nearly a relic, in so far as office equipment goes.

While trying to find the ink I needed I went to this said Office supply store ane while in the ink aisle I was mumbling to myself about the fact that I thought it might be time to retire Copy Cat and break down, buy another one and get to know a new replacement all over again. Usually store staff don’t suggest other places to get supplies. They are trained to talk you into buying what they have there in the store they work at. But this young person who heard me mumbling to myself and saw me getting discouraged, was really cool about not trying to sell me a new printer. He told me about a site online where he thought I could find everything I would need for Copy Cat including my Dell ink cartridges, at low prices. He said they even have all kinds of sales and discounts for orders over a certain amount of money, which considering my printer is outdated, I would order much more than I needed so I would have the it…”just in case”.

I’m happy, Copy cat is old, but still printing along and I don’t have to fear running out of the ink I need. At least for now. :)
