Missed another movie

  • Posted on January 23, 2011 at 7:08 am

Last night I wasn’t feeling quite up to par, so I took it easy and decided to curl up on the sofa and watch a movie while everyone else in the household were doing their own “thing”…whatever that may be. I choose to watch the movie a friend recommended called Eat, Pray, Love. I had not watched any reviews about it, like I usual do, nor did I read any. Julia Roberts usually is good in just about any part she plays though, so I gave it a shot. Sort of. Part way through I fell asleep. Now, this could be because I didn’t feel very well, OR because I was bored. My daughter is reading the book and says it sucks.  In all fairness, I’m going to watch the whole movie tonight and then see determine what my opinion on it is.

TGIF

  • Posted on January 21, 2011 at 10:56 am

It’s been a really long week. I’ve never used the initials “TGIF”, but today I am because I’m ready to just let the world go by and watch without getting involved in any of it. I’m having problems with my internet server, there are lots of appointments next week that can’t be ignored and loads of phone calls also. For today and even possibly this whole weekend, all I want to do is putz, read, perhaps cook (which will shock the livin bejesus out of my family, as I’ve been having lots of “free for alls” lately) and in general regroup! Of course the write in me will no doubt feel the urge for the keys, but in the mean time I hope you all have a great and safe weekend.

Solving a mail problem

  • Posted on January 19, 2011 at 6:45 am

I’ve had a lot of problems in the past year with my mail being delivered and even though I’ve reported the problem, since asking the mailman nicely didn’t work, I am still having my mail delivered to other houses, mishandled, torn or just plain not getting it at all. I’ve decided to get a wall mount mailbox. I really didn’t want to get one, as I like my mail box that is at the end of the walkway on an antique post near the road. I plant flowers around it and like that look.

After and episode I had over the holidays with a package literally being left half in the road and half on the gravel on the side of the road, that is when I started “look shopping” as I call it, for house mailboxes. I keep thinking that maybe that may solve some of my problem with mail delivery, but living in a small village, I still have to check and see what the mail box stipulations are. When we first moved here, and until about five years ago, everyone had post office boxes and in order to get our mail, we would have to go to the post office everyday, which was a hassle. We couldn’t even send the kids up to get the mail. An adult who was listed as permitted to pick up the mail, could only go get it.

I found some really nice wall mount mailboxes online that I liked a lot. Hopefully I can get one and solve some of my delivery problems, IF it is permitted here in town to have one. If not, I guess I’m just going to have to get nastier and more demanding about my mail being delivered properly, and I really don’t think that anyone wants that.

Marketing rip offs

  • Posted on January 17, 2011 at 11:51 am

Last week I was watching one of the morning shows and there was a lady on it that was telling the host about marketing scams or rip offs, and how packaging is the key to most of it now. The general jist of the segment was to be careful of what you buy and to read labels and compare the weight of the products you buy. Basically with new packaging, it looks like you are getting more of your product but in reality, you are paying the same price or more, for LESS of the product. I went to the grocery store and sure enough. Some of my tried and true cleaning products, and items like dish soap, laundry soap and even toilet paper, either the price had gone up on or the packaging had changed to look like I would be getting the same amount, if not more…when in fact I would be getting less. All of these things are necessities. What happens when a person on a limited income, like most of us, don’t have the money to buy even necessities and still put food on the table, which also the prices have gone up on and the amount we get has decreased.

I should learn

  • Posted on January 17, 2011 at 11:31 am

You would think I would learn not to go outside when the air is frigid without covering my nose and mouth. Now I have a doctors appointment because it hurts to breath. Wonderful. Another case of bronchitis coming on. At least though, the walks and driveway are shoveled. The old saying, “If you want something done, you have to do it yourself” holds steady here and I’m about tired of it. I have a husband and two teenage boys in the house to do the “guy things” that need being done. Yet of course, I end up doing it myself. I can tell what kind of a day this is going to be, and I still have to go out to go to the grocery store. UGH!
