My German friends

  • Posted on February 28, 2011 at 4:37 pm

Some of the friends I’ve met through the online social systems are from all over the world. Quite a few of them are German and speak very little English. Of course we try the best we can to communicate as I’ve learned a bit of German from my brother who has been stationed all over Europe and his daughters who speak 6 languages. But from what I’ve been told, there are various sectors that some of the language is different. My niece suggested a translation service. I found when I used one once, my statement turned out to be nothing I intended to write and it was embarrassing but thankfully my friend had a good sense of humor and told me of my mistake as I had been complimenting her outfit.  LOL! I really didn’t want to make more mistakes like that though.

I also checked out those learn it on line courses or disks and found they were very expensive. None of the Jr. collages around this area teach German and I wanted to look into translation services that were affordable, accurate and easy to use. From informal conversations to full intelligent conversations of the various regions my friend were from. It was rather mind boggling to try and pick one out that was accurate also. I asked my brother to look into them for me and bless his heart he did. Übersetzungsbüro

That last word means “translation company” in German! I found it’s so easy to use a good translator. You should try it!

March tomorrow

March here brings the winds, but it also says that spring will soon be here. I can’t wait. Course it will make for really bad hair days and my friends tell me to wear ankle weights so the wind doesn’t blow me away. I don’t think with the excess weight I gained over the winter that this is going to happen of course, but it’s nice that they still think I’m thin enough, eh? lol! Last night we had a big time thunder storm, complete with and awesome light show and ear splitting thunder. At least the power didn’t go out. That I’m thankful for after all the terrible ice and downed power lines this past week. Yard clean up and tree removal trucks however have been going by the house all day. Also I know a lot of farmers with wood burning stoves who will be stocked up for a long time and make money selling it also! :)

The Oscars

Everyone keeps asking me if I’m going to watch the Oscars tonight. No. I’m not into them. I don’t care what people wear on the red carpet and I don’t like to sit through long drawn thank you’s that more than always end up with the “stars” rambling on and on and giving thanks to even their mother’s obstetrician for birthing them. Okay, that is an exaggeration (sometimes? lol) but still, to me they do not even draw any appeal. I’ll watch a movie if I see some interesting previews or someone recommends it.  But to watch the actors and actresses  trying to out dress one another in clothes that would feed my family for a year, forget it.  Of course there are some very good actors who deserve awards. But I’d rather read a good book than watch them on television.

A hard fit

  • Posted on February 26, 2011 at 8:16 am

I’m what is called a very petite woman. It is hard to find clothing that fits me properly. I hate going shopping because of this. I can’t just pick out a certain size and know it’s going to fit, like some women can. I’ve heard, ladies tell sales people that they take a size…what ever, and the sales person goes right to the perfect size, and that is generally a fit. I have to try on every single thing I buy, which to me is a pain in the butt. I have to haul the maximum limit of clothing into the dressing room, get undressed, try the clothing on and nine out of ten times, the sizes I thought would fit, or guessed at, don’t fit. I have to put back on my own clothes, go out onto the floor and pick out, for instance, more jeans and the whole process begins again.

A delicate subject to me are bras, and trying to find one that fits. Not only is it embarrassing, but like I said, I’m very small…all over. Except to make matters worse,  I have an extra rib under my breast on my left side. I generally take a B cup, but must get a size 42 or 44 around, because of the rib making my back pretty broad. Try finding a 42 or 44 B bra. It’s darn near impossible.

The swimsuit top issue is a nightmare. I can find small bottoms that fit, but not the tops. They squish me and it feels like my circulation is being cut off so I can’t breath. The one piece suits that fit me around comfortably are way too big every where else including the cups. So, whats a lady to do? I’d make my own, but I seriously don’t think I’m a talented enough seamstress to make bras! Besides, I’ve never even seen a pattern to make one. Until I find a bra that fits, “my girls” are going free. lol!

Ahh the saga continues

When I called home, it seems that I now own a piece of very pricey equipment known as a generator. BUT,  (drum roll here) it only runs the lights and the television set.  Hello??? What about the FURNACE?  Or the refrigerator? I am not a happy person right now. I have lots of candles, oil lamps, and even utility lamps that run on batteries. We have flashlights of every size imaginable. What I don’t have, is the money to replace the food lost, nor the money to replace broken water pipes.  And to make it even worse, the power is now back on there albeit flickering some, but I’m going back to Mi. tomorrow to come face to face with a mess and a machine that I have no idea how to use if I needed to, and it can’t be taken back. Grrrr!!!
