Iced in saga

  • Posted on February 22, 2011 at 8:20 am

Another rant about weather. Did you expect much more, considering at home up North, we haven’t had power in about four days now…just saying, I’m not a happy camper. And here I am, camping out at my Mom’s where at least the power is on, but iffy because of ice and the winter storm that passed through on Sunday. The drive to Ohio was an adventure in it’s self. Yep, have to come all the way to Ohio from Michigan in order to have power. I’ve never seen so many downed power lines, trees down or even barn roof’s collapsed due to the ice and snow. Okay, if I wanted to be artistic, and would have remembered to take my camera, it was pretty, as the sun peeked out while we were driving and was setting on the ice laden trees and it made for awesome prisms, but the fact that I hate to be cold, hate the winter and not having power in my house, not to mention not having my computer to work with over shadowed the pretty colors and natures beauty. Nature should start doing something beautiful in shades of green, and pastel…like SPRING COLORS!!  What do I do when I stop to get gas and go in to pay for it??? Wipe my feet on the mat, walk onto the floor of the Stop and Rob to pay and promptly slid and fell flat on my back. My head bounced, the fall jarred my body from my neck down my back and to my butt, and right arm. I didn’t even feel embarrassed due to the pain. The only good thing out of that is when I got “home” as I call Mama’s… since I’m her “baby”, she of course has been babying me. I won’t get it when I go back to the place I live most the time, but hey, it’s nice to be warm, have great food and loads of homemade chicken soup, along with other mom type stuff she wants to feed my daughter, who came with me, and I. More later. Stay warm my friends.

A switch

I’ve been griping about the way our cable system for the television is for a long time, which is the same as my internet server. Problem after problem has come up and it takes forever to get to talk to a real person if I have to make a phone call to report the problem. Then there is the wait for them to DO SOMETHING about the problem. It takes an appointment for these service people to come out, which ranges from three to five days, and if they indeed come to the house they are seldom on time or we are given an 8 hour lee way as to when they might be out. I’m seriously thinking about checking out Direct TV. I mean, what could it hurt? And from the research I’ve been sort of doing, I’m trying to decide by asking various people who have it, and also reading articles and ads.

From what I can tell, by having Satellite TV the prices are a lot less expensive than what I am paying now and I’d have slew of more channels to choose from. Good movies are a must in my house and there are quite a bit of channels that have them. Unlike the carrier we now have. And to be honest, I’m a movie person and we could get the latest movies with a push of a button.

There are different packages one can buy also, in various price ranges depending on what kind of things a person likes to watch, and I like that idea. Everyone in our family has different interests and tastes in what they like to watch on television. It wouldn’t hurt to get Direct TV a shot, considering I’m not happy with what I have now and at least I could try it out first hand. The only problem I can tell I will have, is trying to decide which great package deal I want!

Cookie dough

I made or attempted to make sugar cookies today. I’m not a baker of goodies. I start making cookies and then in the middle of making them, I get tired of it and usually have one of the kids take over and finish baking them. It was my daughter’s idea to make sugar cookies and put M&M’s in them. It sounded a like a good idea and for me not having a sweet tooth much at all, even to me they sounded tasty that way. I’m sure it’s not an original idea, but we’ve never made them like that, so we grabbed the bag of M&M’s and started stirring them into the cookie dough. I had to go answer the phone, and by the time I ended the conversation and went back into the kitchen, a great deal of the cookie dough was gone and there were three really guilty teenagers standing at the table. I had to laugh at the thought that passed in my mind. My Nana would tell us as kids, not to eat the raw dough, because it would give us worms. Gross, huh? I figure, heck with all the cookie dough my kids have eaten over the years despite me not liking to bake, they would have been to the doctor quite a few times to be “wormed”. LOL! The rest of the dough was baked into cookies, and I have to admit, this time I didn’t do too bad of a job with them! :)

Valentines Day

  • Posted on February 14, 2011 at 12:18 pm

I’m not a fan of Valentines day. Not at all. I figure if you love a person you don’t need candy and flowers and gifts and all that, once a year to show that person how you feel. So without much to do about it… I wish all my friends and family a very nice and loving day and believe me when I say, I do LOVE you. Not just today, but EVERY DAY! :)

Shopping spree

Spring is coming and I know that I talk a lot about my grand daughter, but hey… I’m a Nana, proud of her and entitled! She’s a clothes hound. I’m not. Of course she gets it from her Mom. The kid has taste, I must admit. I wish I had some of the jeans she has. They are really cool and even though she isn’t a “girly girl”, as she calls it, if one has to use a term, she indeed every now and then likes certain girls dresses and like I said, cool jeans. But she is very hard to buy them for.

The Daughter/Daddy is coming up and of course, she is going to transform for one night, into a girly girl. I love it to a level, but I’m not used to seeing her really decked out. My daughter is planning on taking her to get her hair styled into something that I’m not going to recognize the kid while wearing it, and of course there is shopping for the “right” shoes that match the dress. (This of course I’m all for, since I’m a total shoe fanatic, need them or not. I want them, I buy them.) I think my grand daughter and daughters got that trait from me. The dress of course was picked out two months ago. At the rate this kid is growing, I’m wondering if it will still fit, but if not…there is another shopping trip and change of plans.

I kind of feel sorry for my son in law though. Take note, I said “kind of”. He of course is expected to wear a great suit and of course a tie that matches his daughter’s dress. LOL!! This I can’t wait to see. Last year, he had to wear a bright pink shirt with a silver tie that had sparkles in it. I give him some extra snaps for that outfit just to be fair, and to be honest, the photos were very good. Like my grand daughter said, “Daddy and I were the only ones that matched!” I can’t wait to see her stepping out with her dad!
