I read in the news that the store Abercombie & Fitch now have a line of swimsuits for young girls ages 8 to 14, with padded bikini tops and also padded bottoms. What the living H*** is wrong with these people? I think now a days anyone will do anything to make a profit and this I find very disturbing. I have an 8 year old grand daughter and my daughter would never ever dress her in something like that. Girls that age are still babies, I don’t care what anyone says. Why do some parents what to put their young girls in jeopardy of having some pervert looking at their daughters or worse. This infuriates me to now end. It also doesn’t look like this store is going to pull the line out of their stores either. For shame.
Is it a sign
I wrote about straw bale gardening, and yesterday I got a seed catalog in the mail. Is this a sign that the weather is going to warm up? I have a mega case of cabin fever happening to me and it’s making me in a grouchy mood. I know my kids can’t wait until it’s warm enough for me to go out and play. They keep telling me “It’s not that cold out, Mom.”, only to get me out of the house I think. I do have a lot of great ideas that I am really eager to try out, and looking at the new seed catalog, gave me even more.
Start from straw
I was surfing the internet last week looking for some gardening info that wasn’t in one of my books or in the far recesses of my mind, when I came across what is called straw bale gardening. I had never heard of this before, and I stayed up way past my regular bedtime, pouring over every word I read, and photo I saw. It’s really very cool. I had brought in bales of straw from the farm, to put around the front porch of my house for insulation during the winter and I had ten straw bales I had no idea what to do with, except drag way out to the back yard and burn. They were rather soggy, but still all twined up solidly. I of course recruited my husband and sons to help me drag them into the back yard, and as soon as it gets a bit warmer out, I’m going to put them where I want them and start a veggie garden using straw bales. I’m excited about it! Now, if only the weather would warm up enough for me to start gardening.
Speak of the devil
I’ve often wondered why that is a saying…”Speak of the devil,” if a person that one is talking about and calls or shows up, isn’t a devil at all. (shrugs and shakes head). Shoot.. I just lost my train of thought… hmmm. OH, yes… I wrote about Trish, my “semi kid” who lives in Miami a few posts back. She called again because I lived in Florida and know the area she is living in, and asked if I knew of any where where she get get any reliable good used cars in Miami. Right up my ally! Number one, I love Florida. Numero two, I love cars and trucks or anything that is drivable.
While we were talking I asked her if she preferred a car or a truck to get around in. Dumb question, since she is learning now how to surf, carts around all her beach necessity’s, (and believe me when I say she needs everything under the sun, pardon the pun and the rhyme when she goes to visit the ocean). She also is a lot like me, so truck of course won out!! Of course we talked about price range and it didn’t surprise me that she had saved all her allowance, graduation money and half her pay check over the last couple years. I was indeed impressed. I suggested a used Lincoln Navigator. A friend of mine has one, and it’s hot. I really like it.
Problem being, if Trish was up here it would be easy to take her to look at them and she had no idea where to go to look at one by herself in Miami. So I went searching for a link for used cars in Miami for her. I checked out great many of them, and we talked more on the phone. I decided to give her the first one I had looked into. She’s going tomorrow to look at the truck and various other makes and models as what was cool about this site is that they have actual blogs telling about the car or truck. She can see online exactly what she wants, and know about them when she goes in, as most car sales men really do a racket number on women. Hey…been there seen it, till I wised up. I think the blog info is great when looking for a car.
Accident or Manslaughter
My mom told me about a single mother who had three children all under preteen age, and was out of work, a home and any kind of shelter as the shelters are all filled up. There was a house that had been empty for a year, and did not have electricity, heat or running water. However, the man who owned the house, offered to let her stay there until she could get a job and at least some kind of assistance. They slept on mattresses on the floor and the landlord hooked up a generator in the kitchen to at least run a few lights, the heat and water for her and the children. They stayed there only one night, and when he went to check on them, all of them were on the mattresses as if asleep, but had died from carbon monoxide poisoning. It was due to hooking the generator up in the house. Their carbon monoxide levels were in the high 60′s range, which is nearly three times the amount that one can tolerate, I do believe.
Of course one would think it would be a very stupid and dangerous thing to do, but an accident none the less. BUT, the owner of the house, found the four dead and instead of immediately calling 911, he took the generator out of the house and put it in his garage, then called the police. It’s not looking too good for him. My mom didn’t catch what the charges for this will be or is, but I’m going to try later tonight to find updates.
This is terribly tragic and all because of the economy and a single mother can not get a break at all it seems. It pisses me off that the United States can help millions of people in other countries, but not help her own. Shame on us. Shame on the government. And yes…I’m staying on this bandwagon.
