More cats

  • Posted on November 28, 2011 at 10:19 am

It seems that we are way too overloaded with cats around the house. Not inside, but outside. It’s a shame to say, but people keep dropping off cats and kittens here, and I then feel sorry for them, so of course I feel obligated to feed them. The local animal shelter is supposed to be a no kill shelter, and when I called for them to come get the cats, I was told that they were under funded and could not handle any more cats there. This is getting way out of hand, and there is no one to take these poor animals, even though I have advertised. I just don’t know what to do. People tell me not to feed them, but I’m not cruel like that. On the bright side, at least we don’t have mice.

Loving Fall

Thanks for the guest post by Donn Schroeder

My daughter, the social worker, sometimes comes home for a visit. She lives in a different world than we do. She is young, single, and does whatever she wants to do whenever she wants to do it. I always feel like a tornado has come through the house after she goes back home. She and her dad seem to butt heads a lot because she takes control of the main TV in our house when she is home. And since we got DIRECTV, all her favorite shows are right at her fingertips. So trying not to create an uncomfortable situation, I go along with what she wants to watch because she does not come home that often. What I don’t understand though is how can someone who is not married be so interested in a program called The Real Housewives of every major city in the country? And, when I watch those programs with her, most of the women on there are no longer married and are definitely not housewives. Maybe she likes the idea that they are independent and won’t let anyone tell them what to do. Sounds like someone I know.

Thanksgiving Blessings

No little pictures or anything like that. Just a note to say Happy Thanksgiving to All and to please remember our Troops in your blessings today. Look around you and think of all that you are indeed thankful for, no matter how big or small. It’s all a gift.

Let the cooking begin

Okay, I think I have everything I need to start cooking for tomorrow. In fact, I do believe I went into cooking for an army shopping mode, once I got into the stores. Why do I do that?? I don’t even know which kid or who is actually showing up tomorrow for dinner. Oh well, there will be plenty of left overs.

Mulch from recycled rubber

When I arrived at my friend’s riding arena today I noticed that what had once been a soft dirt floor had been changed. She told me about a company called Rubber Mulch, and raved about it. She knew I had plans on turning our biggest empty barn into a place where the kids, grand kids and I could ride in the winter time and on rainy days. We are nearly finished gutting out the unwanted bins and stalls that we aren’t using, to make the arena. It has a dirt floor, but I was afraid if one of the horses shied or something made one of the kids or even myself fall or get thrown off, any number of injury’s could happen, landing on the packed dirt floor since it really was hard. I also worried about the horses legs due to the impact.

While examining the mulch my friend was using, I was surprised how shock resistant it was, not only beneath my feet, but also how her horses seemed to have a much better gait, even while taking jumps and turns. It wasn’t even dusty  like the other floor she had had. Right then I decided to look into it more thoroughly.

While checking into the arena footing, I discovered that it was non toxic, never rotted or froze, and that is just to name a few of the great aspects. Plus, it also had a life time guarantee. It was said to improve performance, something all horse owners and riders are always looking for. It’s not just for riding arenas either. It can be used on play grounds…a great plus, and all kinds of other places and even used in landscaping. This stuff sounds great and from the way my friend’s arena seemed to have been transformed, it looks good too!
