A new laptop

  • Posted on January 27, 2012 at 1:48 pm

I need a new laptop if my son can’t fix the one that I have. It lags and skips for some reason when I try to catch the news, or watch a movie on it. Kicker is, I just got this one last year. It kind of ticks me off that even the sound only works some of the time. My son thinks it’s a loose wire.

If he can’t fix the problem with this laptop, I’ll have to get another one, which so soon after Christmas, is going to really drain my savings.

If I do have to get a new one though, I’m going to do some homework before I buy one. I want a good one and yet one that isn’t as pricey as the one I have. Knowing what I’m buying will help, and maybe I’ll learn a thing or two on the way. I work on the computer, so a laptop is a must for me since I go out of town every other week.

Deciding on new carpet

  • Posted on January 25, 2012 at 1:31 pm

I’ve wanted new carpet in my office/sewing room for a long time. Everyone says it would be a bad idea because of pins, needles and such. I rarely drop them, and if so have a BIG magnet to pick them up.

I went to the carpet outlet store this morning, to look at various carpets, and a lady there suggested that I use indoor/outdoor carpet for this room. She sews also and since her floors get really cold, she wanted carpet in her sewing room. I saw all sort of colors and styles, but am not sure which one I would like. The plus of this carpet is, that I’ll be saving a great deal of money. It is much less expensive than other types. Even a remnant will fit this room.

I’m going to think about it, and then think also about a new paint job for the walls. I need to cheer it up in here.

Financial Aid for School

My youngest daughter is going to graduate from high school and wants to go to collage, so my husband and I have been looking into financial aid information, since we can’t afford the tuition, books and everything she will need on our own. She plans on going to Beauty Collage, but then also wants to take some other courses in finance and business management also. She indeed has her priorities straight and I am so very proud of her.

Like her father, she is left handed. I didn’t know that there are scholarships and financial aid for left handed students. Her counselor at school never told us this. Maybe she doesn’t know, but one would think that a counselor would know about various scholarships and about financial aid, as we were told this was part of her job. There is however a seminar that my husband and I are going to attend that will give us a lot more information than the counselor has been.

Right now my daughter is not only going to school during the day, but also she has night school three times a week, so her grades improve. Perhaps she can get a scholarship but we will still be needing to look into more financial aid information for her. With the economic times like they are, we are going to need a lot of help. My husband has a good job, but my medical bills just keep piling up and it seems that getting ahead is going to take more time, if we even can.

Damaged mailbox epidemic

  • Posted on January 19, 2012 at 7:40 pm

I don’t know if it’s the way the weather has been, since it’s been icy and snowing most days lately, but two of my friends have had mailboxes also damaged. One of my blogging buddies, Connie had hers hit about the same time I had mine wiped out. My other friend who lives in town had his torn off his house while he was out of State on business.

I’ve gotten a replacement, but I don’t really like it. Still, it will have to do until at least Spring. The ground is too frozen now to put in another post.

I wish people would drive more carefully down this road, and slow their speed down to what it is supposed to me on this road also. This keeps costing me money and I can’t move our mail box any further from the road.

Lawn tools

The Sears store that is in the mall in the town next to ours, is going out of business. I think most of the stores in the mall have or are going to close soon. It’s a shame, because there were some really great stores there over the years.

I went to Sears and there was a sale on all the lawn tools. I was in heaven. Everything was marked at really low discount prices. These are some good tools too, and before this I didn’t have the money to spend on them. Gardening isn’t just a hobby to me, it also brings in a small income. Not much, but every little bit helps.

My lawn tools are really important to me. I’m known to treat them like my “babies”, since I’m pretty protective of them. I have a feeling it’s going to get worse, now that I have saved a great deal of money buying these tools, and want to make them last a good long while. I obviously couldn’t get the warranty Sears offered before, so I’m going to take care of them, and as selfish as it seems, I’m not going to lend them out to anyone.
