Storms around us

  • Posted on June 28, 2012 at 10:03 am

The weather around us has been terrible, and storms have caused power outages all around us. So far though, we have only had about ten minutes of rain and the wind whipped up a little bit.

Despite of the weather forecasts saying we are to get storms, we haven’t had any and it’s a mixed feeling. Some of my family living in various areas south of my have had power outages and their neighbors  have had a lot of wind and hail damage. There are towns and small cities with power outages that is not expected to be restored for weeks. It’s so sad. There is going to have to be a lot of home improvement after the clean up.

I am now going into storm survival mode, gathering up and also stocking up on things we may need, just in case of any power outages and severe weather. We have a small gasoline generator, but I have to learn how to use it. I don’t have a clue about it. Time I learn, just in case. It’s part of survival and I have to be up on it.

Vehicle woes

My son’s car finally is ready for the junk yard, I’m afraid. It seems that the consensus is, that it’s going to cost more to fix it than it is worth, unfortunately. I feel for him. He needs a car to go to school and to work, but can’t buy a car since he can’t get to work. It looks like I’m going to have to at least try to help him financially to get a reliable vehicle. Since I can’t drive I feel it is somewhat my responsibility to help out. He takes me to quite a few places I need to go, so it’s all going to even out in the end.

We’re going to go look at some good used cars this coming weekend. This car he had did however last a lot longer than I ever thought it would so it’s been of great service to us and also to my oldest daughter who gave it to him, when she got her new truck.

My son understands we aren’t really going to be able to afford a new car, and he is okay with that. He just wants something that is good on gas, is in sound running order and that he doesn’t have to worry about sinking a lot of money into. We’ll have to see what we can find and I think I know of some cars we can get some good deals on.

Residential address plaques

Looking at residential address plaques, I’ve decided that I would like to buy one for my daughter’s new home. She lives way out in the country and I noticed she didn’t have house numbers on her new house. My daughter had mentioned that she gets people stopping by just to either turn around in her driveway or to ask directions to another home. It gets disturbing after so many of these stops, she said. I can understand her point. Also her mail carrier keeps putting her mail in the neighbor down the road’s box.

Some of the personalized address plaques I was looking at are really nice and one of these types would be a special gift. I know my daughter and she likes things of this type, so does her husband. He owns his own concrete company and it comes in handy to have their name and the house number on the plaque.

There are quite a few custom address plaques to choose from. Some are really fancy, but my daughter doesn’t care for anything really over the top when it comes to purchases like this. I’m sure I’ll be able to find the perfect one for her, and am looking forward to surprising her with it.

Power was for the house

  • Posted on June 22, 2012 at 10:03 am

Now that summer is here, I need to get the power washer out and give this house a major bath. We live down the road from a grain mill and when the mill runs, we get the chafe and dust all over. It’s always been a problem living here.

The farm trucks and wagons will use the section of road that is dirt and gravel, to come into town and the dirt from the vehicles sort of hangs in the air when they go by, which makes for not only a dirty exterior but also inside the house, now with windows open, it’s hard to keep up with the dust that comes in.

I love to use the power washer and the outside of the house looks so nice once it’s clean. Usually it only takes a couple hours to do it the right way, so it’s that is one of the things on my list to do this weekend.

Looking at horses

  • Posted on June 22, 2012 at 9:45 am

Later on today,  I’m going to go look at a horse that a person I know is selling, because she is moving and won’t have the accommodations to keep a horse, or any animals for that matter. I have the option of buying the horse, which I have had my eye on for about a year.

There are actually two horses, and my eye is on the palomino, which is beautiful and also well trained for trail riding. He is 5 years old and has lots of spunk to him, which I like in my horses.

If all goes well, I’ll be bringing home a new friend over the weekend. I’m pretty excited about this. My grand daughter loves to ride and is a natural on horseback, which I’m really happy about. With the price of gasoline now, and no respite it seems, I may just get a wagon and start going where I need to go via, horsepower. ;)
