Shopping for the gardens

  • Posted on April 26, 2013 at 9:47 am

Today, since the sun is shining and the weather is supposed to be warm this weekend, which I will believe when I feel it, I’ve decided to visit the local garden centers and see what goodies I can find, and also shop for the items on my list that I’ve been compiling all winter in preparation for my gardens.

I’d also like to get some lawn and porch furniture, the chairs and such I have now are worn and I want a fresh new look.

I know of a few stores that have some great sales so perhaps I can also save some money to sink into new garden tools and also some planters I’ve been wanting to buy. I’ve got to replace some of the old bricks in the courtyard and also get some more seeds and top soil. I have a feeling this is going to be an expensive shopping trip, but I’ve saved all winter for this and nothing is going to deter me!

Snow in April

  • Posted on April 25, 2013 at 9:35 am

While taking the dogs out this morning I stopped short at the back door and realized that it had snowed over night. Not just a little dusting either. The white stuff covered the ground and despite the sun shining, it was so cold outside that it felt like winter all over again.

Snow in April, only in Michigan. This is so crazy and it feels like it’s never going to get warm. Of course, I had to put on boots and a heavy coat, while my poor dogs were waiting (with legs crossed) to go outside and do their business. They were patient and ignored my string of not good words said with disgust of the snow and cold.

My iris, daffodils and other spring plants were bending with the snow and I felt so sorry for the fat little robins that had arrived shivering with the cold. Okay, I didn’t see the robins shivering, but I was so everyone had to be cold. It’s the rule here. Mom is cold, everyone is.

Attic cleaning and tentative yard sale

  • Posted on April 9, 2013 at 5:49 pm

I have put off cleaning out the attic for quite some time. Like…for three years. I swear my kids think the attic is a catch all for things that they don’t use, will no doubt ever use, yet shove up in the attic, no doubt for lack of knowing what else to do with the stuff. I point to the dumpster and they give me a reason why they won’t though items away right now.

I’ve never had a yard sale because to me it seems like it would be a major project to even get ready for, but I’m seriously thinking of having one once the weather gets nicer. Upon going into the attic, I looked around and found boxes had been gone through and were no longer in neat stacks where I had put them, the last time I rearranged and cleaned up there.

I took some drastic measures today when it was time to come down from the attic, and locked the door. I have the only key, and I’ve decided there is going to be no more stashing things up in the attic that should be either donated, thrown away or sold at a yard sale. What is upstairs in attic will not be there as soon as good weather comes either!

An amazing fireworks display

  • Posted on April 8, 2013 at 9:09 pm

Last night I was sitting near a window that faces my back yard, and though I heard some “booming” sounds I didn’t pay much attention to them at the time. Then the young pit we rescued went sort of bonkers. He got terribly scared and needed to be calmed down, because the neighbors on the corner of our road were celebrating something at their home, and started a very long fireworks display.

The way the neighbors had positioned the “show” was so it would go out over three of our back yards, which isn’t a problem as they were being shot up very high into the air. I have to admit, this firework display looked like a professionals were in charge. Complete with music.

I watched the finale and it was beautiful. Unfortunately I found out the new pup is terrified of the fireworks. Around here, people start the 4th of July as soon it is warm enough to go outside with out being bundled up. I think it’s going to be a long summer!

Menu Planning from Emeals

  • Posted on April 3, 2013 at 10:27 am

Meal planning, writing lists and going to the grocery store are things that I really despise doing. I’m not a meal planning type of person until recently when I heard of Menu Planning from Emeals. Once I clicked on the site and read what they could do for me, I was hooked and indeed want to try this method and find out if this will make me actually kind of enjoy going to the grocery store.

With this method of meal planning and shopping, one can eat everything from classic meals, to gluten free meals, all of which have been planned out according to one’s lifestyle and eating habits. There are other meal types to choose from also, depending on what a person usually wants to eat and what they like.

The folks at Emeals send everything needed right to our mail box, and it includes the meal plan, recipes, a detailed grocery list with the perks of coupons and  weekly specials from the stores near us plus more. For me, this method would be a dream come true. There are lots of savings and just to have someone help with meal planning and lists would be an added value and a great service.
