Mothers Day Surprises

  • Posted on May 12, 2013 at 9:44 pm

For Mother’s Day this year, my family went all out. All day I have received calls from people who grew up with my kids, wishing me a happy mother’s day, which was nice for these young people to do. My youngest daughter couldn’t be here for the first time, since she now lives so far away, but I received a call from her bright and early this morning and also flowers came that I can actually plant in my gardens instead of them just being in water to die.

My “boys” took me out to lunch and we went for a road cruise just enjoying the day and also stopping at some of the first yard sales of the season. They would normally never do this, so that was a plus.

When we got home, I had a cake and some nice gifts from my oldest daughter waiting for me, and she came back with my grand kids to celebrate. All in all, it was a nice day, full of surprises and lots of love. I’m very fortunate.

Taking a short vacation

This weekend is my nieces bridal shower, and I must admit I would rather just send money and not go. I’ve never been into showers of any kind, and since I’m actually expected to go, I think I’m going to hit Ohio thinking of it as a mini vacation.

There is an art museum exhibit going on that I’d like to see, and I have passes to a hotel room with all the perks. (thanks to a good friend of mine who couldn’t use them).

If the weather is nice I’d like to go to the new farmer’s market in the part of Ohio I will be in. I always love going to the first farmers markets there, because they have all different kinds of seeds and plants to grow once I take them home.

Photography by Rusty Solomon

Friends of mine know that I love looking at photography and are always turning me on to various photographer’s work that they think I may like. Photography by Rusty Solomon is something that I have seen and I thought was quite interesting.

If possible, I always read about an artist, or photographer if there is any information on them. I’m interested in how they came into the photography world and also where their roots are. Rusty Solomon is a Scottish photographer, who is a natural history photographer and has done quite a bit about conservation in Scotland.

In addition to his photography and involvement in natural conservation, he lectures at various schools and universities in Scotland about disbarred photography, and also leads nature tours and hold workshops on entomology and natural history.

An amazing fireworks display

Last night I was sitting near a window that faces my back yard, and though I heard some “booming” sounds I didn’t pay much attention to them at the time. Then the young pit we rescued went sort of bonkers. He got terribly scared and needed to be calmed down, because the neighbors on the corner of our road were celebrating something at their home, and started a very long fireworks display.

The way the neighbors had positioned the “show” was so it would go out over three of our back yards, which isn’t a problem as they were being shot up very high into the air. I have to admit, this firework display looked like a professionals were in charge. Complete with music.

I watched the finale and it was beautiful. Unfortunately I found out the new pup is terrified of the fireworks. Around here, people start the 4th of July as soon it is warm enough to go outside with out being bundled up. I think it’s going to be a long summer!

Recording first Music CD

My sons and their band will be going Saturday to a real recording studio to record music my oldest son has written and the band preforms. They are so “stoked” as they call it. I would take that to mean they are super excited about this project.

My brother in law set the recording session up with a friend of his, who has in the past recorded many famous and semi famous singers and bands. My brother in law himself is in a popular band and they play shows all over the US. This is indeed a good experience for my son’s and their band members. Even though the music they play is a more very heavy metal, it’s great that this man recording is more than willing to help them out.

My guys have been practicing the songs and music that they want recorded and it’s taken all of their time. I figure as long as my youngest son’s grades don’t suffer, it’s fine. Bring on the music. I can’t wait to hear about their experience when they come home from the recording session!
