I’ve been putting it off long enough. I’ve depleted my freezer meat and have run out of ideas about what to cook, so I have to go to the dreaded grocery store. I honestly don’t know many people, except maybe my mom, who like to grocery shop. I hate it more than most though. When ever I ask my family what they want for supper, generally they tell me either “free for all” meaning, they will get what they want, of tacos. I don’t like tacos but they could eat tacos and pizza everyday. I supposed I could justify this as food, considering both have in it’s own way all the basic food groups, but that is not my way of thinking. In a little while, armed with my list and some coupons I actually clipped (if I remember them…something I rarely do) I’m off to the grocery store. Ohhh Joy.
Grocery shopping
Texas style
Usually I don’t like sweet things. I’ll get a craving every now and then for chocolate of course. I don’t know many women who don’t! Right now though, I’ve been thinking about a recipe that one of my online friends who has a blog posted. It’s for the the most wonderful looking Texas sheet cake. I’ll have to get that recipe, try it and then post it and a photo. Just looking at it made me gain 5lbs!
Major grocery list
I just made my grocery list up. OMG! I didn’t realize that I am out of so many things, and need to buy so many groceries. I keep looking for dishes that are healthy, that the family will eat and that are inexpensive. I think I’m fighting a loosing battle. Just the list of things like shampoo, bath tissue, conditioner, laundry soap and items like that are going to cost a great deal. I’m going to have to be very careful this week. Also, I’ve decided to break down, get ink for my computer which its self is expensive, and become one of those “coupon people.” Actually I used to be, but always forgot to take along my coupons when I left to go shopping. I’m really dreading this shopping trip. I’ll need a healthy does of Calgon when I get home this evening.
Going for a great visit!
I’ve been planning a small vacation to visit a couple who have been friends of mine for nearly 18 years. Sadly, and at my own admission, I have never had the time or have made time, rather to go on any kind of vacation actually, and I believe this is the time to take a break and “get out of Dodge” so to speak. Besides it would be awesome to visit with Angie and her partner Darcy. They are a gay couple I met through other friends, and I love them so much! They have come here over the years, as Darcy’s parents live in about 100 miles from here. Angie has been sending me some info on the places that they would like for me to see and experience in the San Diego Hillcrest area. My gosh there is a whole lot of things do do, see and it seems like such a grand place to vacation with a pair of great friends showing me around!
Of course the first thing on the agenda is food! Darcy is in charge of that, and she indeed knows her restaurants! She had told me about how San Francisco loves Gay Pride and that it is about that time of year there, where one will see signs all over, and there is a Pride Parade, but that was in June, and of course I missed that unfortunately.
Angie is in charge of the gay bars, in the area. I’m not a big time drinker anymore, but it will still be a blast going out and about with them, to visit their so called, “haunts” and I’ve been informed that it’s a great time to be had by all. This is one visit that I am totally going to enjoy I am sure. And it’s about time that I went and spent time with my two awesome friends. I can’t wait to bring home little trinkets for the kids and for my friends here too! Everyone always waits patiently when I start opening up my suitcases to see what I’ve bought home for them! I just wish I wouldn’t have missed the Pride Parade, but there is always next year.
Cuban food
Gosh I had the best dinner last night. I made a pork shoulder in the oven, with black beans and rice and fried plantains (bananas). It was AMAZING. Reminded me of a visit I once made to Miami. The food was so good. I think I will have to learn how to make that dessert called Flan. It would have topped off the meal perfectly, but I didn’t think about it until it was too late. Note to self…don’t forget the Flan next time. =) If you have never tried Cuban food, I highly recommend it. You will enjoy the experience I assure you.
