By the dozens

  • Posted on December 17, 2011 at 7:55 am

By staying up most the night baking Christmas cookies for the kids to decorate, I realized that I have way too many than we will ever eat. This coming week, my daughter will be going to the old folks homes, as she calls them, to Christmas carol with her choir. I’m thinking about getting together small plates of cookies or little “bundles” of them for her and the girls to give out also. It would be nice to share them.

Loving Fall

Thanks for the guest post by Donn Schroeder

My daughter, the social worker, sometimes comes home for a visit. She lives in a different world than we do. She is young, single, and does whatever she wants to do whenever she wants to do it. I always feel like a tornado has come through the house after she goes back home. She and her dad seem to butt heads a lot because she takes control of the main TV in our house when she is home. And since we got DIRECTV, all her favorite shows are right at her fingertips. So trying not to create an uncomfortable situation, I go along with what she wants to watch because she does not come home that often. What I don’t understand though is how can someone who is not married be so interested in a program called The Real Housewives of every major city in the country? And, when I watch those programs with her, most of the women on there are no longer married and are definitely not housewives. Maybe she likes the idea that they are independent and won’t let anyone tell them what to do. Sounds like someone I know.

Mulch from recycled rubber

When I arrived at my friend’s riding arena today I noticed that what had once been a soft dirt floor had been changed. She told me about a company called Rubber Mulch, and raved about it. She knew I had plans on turning our biggest empty barn into a place where the kids, grand kids and I could ride in the winter time and on rainy days. We are nearly finished gutting out the unwanted bins and stalls that we aren’t using, to make the arena. It has a dirt floor, but I was afraid if one of the horses shied or something made one of the kids or even myself fall or get thrown off, any number of injury’s could happen, landing on the packed dirt floor since it really was hard. I also worried about the horses legs due to the impact.

While examining the mulch my friend was using, I was surprised how shock resistant it was, not only beneath my feet, but also how her horses seemed to have a much better gait, even while taking jumps and turns. It wasn’t even dusty  like the other floor she had had. Right then I decided to look into it more thoroughly.

While checking into the arena footing, I discovered that it was non toxic, never rotted or froze, and that is just to name a few of the great aspects. Plus, it also had a life time guarantee. It was said to improve performance, something all horse owners and riders are always looking for. It’s not just for riding arenas either. It can be used on play grounds…a great plus, and all kinds of other places and even used in landscaping. This stuff sounds great and from the way my friend’s arena seemed to have been transformed, it looks good too!

Getting ready for Thanksgiving

  • Posted on November 3, 2011 at 4:36 pm

To me, Thanksgiving is special. It’s not about the food, since I cook for three days and it’s all over in 32 minutes…yes, once I did indeed time it. Thanksgiving is a day that I can think back while my family is at the table and remember all of the things I have to be thankful for, despite of the rough times. This year, like last year, my youngest daughter will be saying the Thanksgiving prayer, and it means a lot to me. So, I’m doing my shopping and planning, but also remembering the little things I’m thankful for, while I’m getting my supplies.

Teenage acne and adult skin help

  • Posted on October 16, 2011 at 3:38 pm

I really feel sorry for my daughter’s close friend. She has a very bad acne problem which indeed lowers her self esteem very much. Not to say anything bad about her mom, but she really doesn’t have the support at home for these kind of problems nor the finances to help with her problem. I’ve kind of taken her “under my wing” so to speak, by helping her with the right kind of hygiene,  facial wise and also advising her to keep her hair out of her face and not to keep touching her face in case that has something to do with more acne. I don’t know… it is what my mom taught me, and by no means am I now in the medical field, but I always have told this kind of advice to my daughters and son’s and it has seemed to help during the teenage years.

Resurgence is a skin product that helps resolve wrinkles and lines in the face also. I think I’d like to try this, myself. I’ll of course need to do more research on it, but if it works, I sure could use it. It’s basically for aging skin to revitalize it. I think it’s time to admit that I could handle the fact that I would like to try something like that.

There are Murad Coupon Codes that give you a great discount on a skin cream and treatment that firm up the skin and help revitalize it. Normally I don’t believe in buying products that I’m unsure of, but a friend of mine recommended this cream and since it’s not a pill or drug and not a shot, It might be worth the try.
