Envy Zinnias

  • Posted on March 25, 2012 at 8:44 pm

A dear friend that I met by blogging and I have a seed exchange this time of year. We put together packets of seeds together for one another and then mail them out so we both can share in out last years “bounty.”

This  year, I have a great deal of zinnia seeds. All colors, sizes, and even shapes of petals. Some were sort of cross bred by accident even! When I saw green zinnias blooming, I  had to go to many various stores and lawn and garden supply places to find them. Finally I found ONE packet. They are called Envy. So I’ll be sending out those to my friend this week some time, along with the other seeds I saved.

Getting out of Dodge

  • Posted on March 23, 2012 at 8:18 pm

I have a few bags packed and I am nearly ready to take a road cruise down to my Mom’s to spend the weekend. My youngest daughter, who usually goes with me, has a friend over so she won’t be along this time. It’s going to be a quiet weekend I think.

I warned my Mom that I was no doubt going to sleep the weekend away. Not a problem with her. Of course, I’ll help her out with some things she needed done, but my other sister was over a few days ago and no doubt pretty much has everything covered, except maybe the laundry. That is okay though, since I have some I’m taking along with me. Mom never has a full load of colors or whites, so I add too them.

I wish it was as warm today and the weekend like it was here this past week. It really was beautiful, despite of it this weather coming way to early. It’s kind of scary if one thinks about it. At least though, I’ll be able to assess my plants that are coming up there and jot down a list of what I will need in May.

Loving online cheesecake

  • Posted on March 23, 2012 at 6:33 pm

Now that I can Order Cheesecake Online, I’m pretty much in seventh heaven. It’s a comfort food for myself and my whole family. My friends and neighbors also. Sitting at my wooden kitchen table, I will eat a little slice, and it’s enough to bring back memories of needful and meaningful talks, of solving some problems and talking the others away. Memories of celebrating and of course there were on occasion the bad times and tears.

The first cheesecake I ever made, was in my Nana’s kitchen. It was my Papa though, who taught me how to make a perfect rich, but simple cheesecake.  Complete with the taste and texture of the first bite, being one of those cheesecakes that you will not forget. Cheesecake loves will know what I mean. There are quite a few variety’s I’ve had that have had that, ” Yep, this is keeper in my book.” I don’t know if I think it is so good because of the fact, Papa taught me how to use the ingredients and I am just partial. OR, it indeed is a great tasting cheesecake. It has worked it’s magic around a few kitchen tables though and never failed being there when needed, considering this is the only kind of cheese cake I will make. The rest I gladly buy. And there are great savings and deals also!

I love sending away for a cheesecake another person has made. It’s an art, making “the” cheesecake, as far as I am concerned. When I first found out I can get cheesecake just by staying home and surfing the net for them, I was in awe. I’ve got a bucket list, just of various types of cheesecake I want to try, and who sells them. It’s a long one!

Perfect weather

  • Posted on March 21, 2012 at 11:10 pm

This whole week, this area couldn’t ask for more perfect weather. It’s kind of surreal, that normally at this time of year, it’s still cold and it even may snow a few more times, or there have been big freezes. I think people are starting to get comfy with the way the weather has been lately, and don’t realize that it isn’t even April yet. The weather here has always been anyone’s guess

Last week we had tornado warnings and watches, storms and great light and sound shows from those storms. Then came this beautiful, sunny and 85 degree weather. But along with sun and high temps, the bugs and animals are “forced” to come out of hiding and hibernation much earlier lately. Like I said, I do have that little scared, “niggly” feeling tucked not to far from the surface. It’s making me even more aware than usual. I have my emergency supply kit, and some other kits made up that I have been learning that I may need during times like this. It helps with the worry. I have enough for my family and a few close friends that I know are stocking for us also. It’s a sort of survival family so to speak, in case something terrible does happen. We like to think positive, but be prepared.

Muscles I didn’t think of

OMG!! Yesterday, I worked in the yard all day. I turned over earth, got out stones and sod. I transplanted some catnip that my neighbor thought I needed. Actually, it’s a nice gesture, but I have so much that it’s taking over…every year. My cats don’t even like it much. But I can’t refuse them when someone gives me plants. I raked old leaves, and took out the herb an flower boxes that were made of wood and antique brackets. The wood was getting old and I am going with a different look this year. Nothing totally drastic, but I’ll notice it.

I worked all day, and sowed grass seed, laid straw and watered it all down. Then I raked stone from the driveway to fill in some holes that the plow had made. I also hosed down the porch and then after I put all my tools, buckets and stuff away, I came in and took a bath. I must admit, I felt good that I had accomplished so much today. Lots I didn’t write. I was relaxed and so I read my book for awhile and fell asleep.

Trying to get out of bed this morning was hell. There is no other way to describe it. Every muscle in my body hurt. I had thought I was in some kind of shape…maybe not the greatest at keeping in really great shape  anymore…but holy moly, I didn’t even know that working out in the yard like I did yesterday, even made my my lower back down to my butt muscles hurt. Embarrassing perhaps a bit…but true, none the less.
