News decision

  • Posted on February 3, 2011 at 9:31 am

I am saying big time prayers for the people in Egypt and have decided to stop watching the news for a time. With the weather here, the health issues I have and seemingly no happy news on the television, it is depressing. This isn’t to say that I won’t become informed again about what is happening in the world and in our general news…I will. After I see my doctor and find out why I keep having anxiety attacks every day.

Marketing rip offs

Last week I was watching one of the morning shows and there was a lady on it that was telling the host about marketing scams or rip offs, and how packaging is the key to most of it now. The general jist of the segment was to be careful of what you buy and to read labels and compare the weight of the products you buy. Basically with new packaging, it looks like you are getting more of your product but in reality, you are paying the same price or more, for LESS of the product. I went to the grocery store and sure enough. Some of my tried and true cleaning products, and items like dish soap, laundry soap and even toilet paper, either the price had gone up on or the packaging had changed to look like I would be getting the same amount, if not more…when in fact I would be getting less. All of these things are necessities. What happens when a person on a limited income, like most of us, don’t have the money to buy even necessities and still put food on the table, which also the prices have gone up on and the amount we get has decreased.

Great Week

This has been one of the most perfect weeks.  For one thing I had 3 days off from work in a row!  That never happens or at least not as far back as I can remember.  I was able to catch up with some friends, I went to the library and did a lot of reading, and worked-out everyday.  It has been so relaxing and wonderful.  I never realized how much I missed my downtime.  I thought I would end up bored and missing work, but that did not happen.  I guess I really needed a few days to myself.

One of my friends that I saw for lunch has been laid off from her job.  She was telling me how she was in need of this time off so bad that she didn’t even realize it.  The greatest blessing for her has been getting laid off although she was with the company for over 13 years.  She has been without a job for 2 months now and states it has been the greatest 2 months of her life.  Myabe we should all take more time off it seems like we all need it!

Good News

Yesterday I heard an incredible story on the news.  We are all struggling a little bit these days with debt and other financial issues.  One women in particular was going through her bills and didn’t know how she was going to pay them all.  Haven’t we all been there?  After her fear began to set in she decided to look in her drawer that held all her old lottery tickets.  She thought just maybe one of these was a winner and I overlooked it.  In fact that was the case she had a 10 month old lottery ticket in there worth $10 million dollars!  I am so happy for her I can’t believe someone could have overlooked something like this.  On top of that it would have expired in 2 months!  What an incredible story.
