Oprah

I love Oprah Winfrey I am a huge fan of hers.  I always have been and I always will be.  Recently I have been able to watch some of her shows because our hours at work have been cut back.  The next couple of shows are going to be about Kristie Alley and Valerie Bertinelli and all of their weight loss struggles.  I worked for Jenny Craig for a couple of years so I will definitely tune in to watch these episodes.  Then I heard that next week she is going to run a show on Madelleine McCann.  The little girl who got taken from her parents vacation home in Portugal.

That story touched my heart.  I felt so horrible for her parents and everything they went through.  I remember following that story closely and praying for her safe return.  I am so happy that they story is going to be on Oprah.  We need to keep searching for children that are lost.  We should never forget about them and always keep our prayers going strong for the families and for the children.  I hope something good will come out of this broadcast.

Craigslist

Craigslist is a website that has gotten a lot of exposure lately.  Unfortunately not for good reasons either.  I use this site a lot to look up jobs or part-time positions if I need extra money.  Lately though it has been in the news because of other services that are offered.

About a month ago Craigslist was in the news for a prostitution ring.  Just recently though a man has been accussed of luring women from Craigslist to hotel rooms and robbing them.  He is currently in the news because his last victim fought back and ended up dead.  It seems that he was in trouble with a large gambling debt and he was trying to get money from these women.  Unfortunately crime does not pay.  Now he is sitting in jail waiting for his trial date.  It’s so unfortunate that a website that offers services such as job postings, etc. can end up causing someone their life.

Gang Violence

Generally I don’t like to write about topics that are too sad or too depressing.  I like to keep this blog going on a positive note, but one topic that I feel needs to be discussed this week is the gang violence that has gotten out of hand.  Just the other day there was a violent murder that took place a few streets away from my work.  Everyone is assumming it was gang related.  It was a random act that occurred in an upper middle class neighborhood.

Besides that the information is pretty vague.  There were a couple of witnesses that saw a number of people and heard yelling but besides that nothing else has been said or heard.  The neighbors are in a state of shock.  I just hope these killers are found and the truth comes out.  If it is gang related that is horrible and we need to work on solving that problem, but if it is not the crime is still just as horrible and other problems need to be addressed.

The Issue of Abortion

  • Posted on February 7, 2009 at 12:08 am

I just read an incredibly sad story about a woman who went in for an abortion at 23 weeks.  That in itself should be illegal to do, in my opinion, and in fact in some states it is.  What ended up happening was that the baby was born instead of the abortion being performed.  After the birth the fetus was put into a plastic bag and thrown in the trash.  This all happened in the United States at a reputable clinic. I think that the clinic should have told this woman that she waited too long and refused to do the procedure unless the woman’s own life was at stake, and that evidently was not the case.

Now that this case is in court, my question is, what percentage is the mom guilty of?  She wants compensation for her loss and emotional distress, yet she was the one who went into the clinic to have the abortion.  How much of this is she responsible for?  I’m not saying the doctors or nurses did what was right either.  This is going to be a tough case.  All I can say is I’m glad I’m not sitting on the jury.

Debate Night

  • Posted on October 7, 2008 at 10:40 am

Tonight I have to work late and will miss the debate on TV between Obama and McCain. I was hoping to see some of it, but I’m sure all the news stations will be broadcasting the best parts and criticizing the worst parts for the next several days. I thought about TIVO-ing the debate, but decided that it’s really something you need to see live.

Politics and the election has been on everyone’s minds these days. The elections are just a month away. I hope we have a great turnout and record numbers of voters this year. It’s going to be an exciting time for America!
