Garage sales and flea markets

  • Posted on May 30, 2013 at 12:42 pm

Yesterday my oldest daughter and I decided to take off and go to a flea market near our homes. I have to say, I found quite a few cool things to bring home, but I had been looking for specific items and I didn’t find them.

Since we didn’t stay at the flea market too long, we stopped at five garage sales on the way home. My daughter found some pool and swimming floaty things for the kids to play with and float on, and also a skimmer that she got one heck of a deal on, considering it was never used!

I found a dress form that actually was pretty near my size, and grabbed it up. Since my sewing machine is always up and I sew as a hobby, this will come in handy. I had been looking for one for a long while, but didn’t want to pay too much for it. I’d say I got a big break on this item. Only 15.00, which isn’t even near the cost of what it is worth! All in all, we had a great day, and got quite a few items at awesome prices!

Triplets on the Way

This guest post from Werner Rogers

Who grows up saying they want to have triplets? It’s been really nice being married these last few years but you know, my husband and I were ready for kids. We were really thinking it would be easy for us to get pregnant but it’s been incredibly tough. In fact, we’ve had to undergo invitro to get pregnant at all! And when the doctor told us we were pregnant with TRIPLETS my husband actually passed out. Like, for real…he passed out. Anyway, we’ve been breaking our necks to get the house ready for the babies and the nursery still isn’t done yet. I’m so big I can’t do much but look at www.electriccompaniestexas.net/ rates online and shop for baby clothes on Amazon but that’s okay – at least I feel like I’m doing something. I thought I would be more prepared since we were so excited about having kids but as it turns out I feel like I’m way in over my head. My mom says that’s totally normal and that she felt the same way when she was first pregnant with me but I just have these waking nightmares about the house being totally not ready and the babies being sick and my husband working overtime hours to pay for it all. I think when we decided to try and have a baby we thought it was going to be an easy transition but it’s going to hit us all at once! We had actually only planned on having two kids total so having three at one time is going to be crazier than I ever could have imagined. I’m so blessed that I get to be a mom at all and I can’t wait to find out what these little bundles of joy are going to be like. It’s two girls and a boy and my husband says he’s already got names picked out for the boy (he won’t tell me!) and of course, I’m still undecided for the girls.

Filling the pool

The task of cleaning out and then filling the pool is rather daunting to me. We only have cold water coming from the outside faucet, and for me to get into the water when its cold like it is will not even be pleasant. I have even thought about hiring a pool company to come open, clean and fill the pool for me, but it’s sens less to waste that kind of money, just because I don’t like getting cold.

Of course in the coming months, I’ll be glad I did all the chores it takes to get the pool clean and filled with fresh water, but it’s the procedure of this I’d love to forgo.

Today I go get all the chemicals I need for the summer to keep the pool clean, and I’m thinking about getting new deck furniture also. We need more comfy chairs and I’ve seen a few stores have some great deals on various lawn and patio furniture. It will be nice to have more places for people to sit when they come to visit and swim.

Lighting up the gardens

Looking for the perfect lights for my garden is turning out a bit more difficult than I thought it would be. There are a lot of various lights to choose from and I know for the effect I want to achieve, I’m going to need quite a few lights.

I’d like to have lights illuminating the walk ways and also place lights in various places within the flowers and herbs. Also I have little fairies and other garden “visitors” hanging out in among the plants which I would like to have showing in the lights.

I know I don’t want a bunch of cords or wires that I have to hide and then run to the house for power, so for sure my choice will be solar powered, which I have heard is the way to go with a garden the size of mine. Tomorrow I’ll go shopping again and finally pick out the lights I want, so I can finish up at least the front gardens. I’m rather excited to see how this project is going to turn out!

Shopping for the gardens

Today, since the sun is shining and the weather is supposed to be warm this weekend, which I will believe when I feel it, I’ve decided to visit the local garden centers and see what goodies I can find, and also shop for the items on my list that I’ve been compiling all winter in preparation for my gardens.

I’d also like to get some lawn and porch furniture, the chairs and such I have now are worn and I want a fresh new look.

I know of a few stores that have some great sales so perhaps I can also save some money to sink into new garden tools and also some planters I’ve been wanting to buy. I’ve got to replace some of the old bricks in the courtyard and also get some more seeds and top soil. I have a feeling this is going to be an expensive shopping trip, but I’ve saved all winter for this and nothing is going to deter me!
