A friend in need

  • Posted on April 19, 2011 at 11:28 am

I really feel for my friend who lives too far away from me for me to come visit. For the last couple of weeks we have talked on the phone a few times a day, because her teen age daughter is threatening to hurt herself or run away. This is stressful for everyone in the household and even the counselors at school are offering no help or advice.

I told her to take these issues to her doctor. It’s totally necessary. Not only for the daughter’s own good but also for the rest of the family. It is always hard to make that kind of decision, of course. For the well being of my child though, I would make it in a heart beat. I’d rather leave it in the hands of professionals, than try and do what my friend is doing on her own because it just isn’t working. She of course is realizing this, even if it is hard, it’s for the best.

Hopefully all will turn out well for my friend’s daughter. The pain and helplessness in her voice makes me so sad, but perhaps she will go over the links and info I sent her, and look into the kind of help that is needed.

Accident or Manslaughter

My mom told me about a single mother who had three children all under preteen age, and was out of work, a home and any kind of shelter as the shelters are all filled up. There was a house that had been empty for a year, and did not have electricity, heat or running water. However, the man who owned the house, offered to let her stay there until she could get a job and at least some kind of assistance. They slept on mattresses on the floor and the landlord hooked up a generator in the kitchen to at least run a few lights, the heat and water for her and the children. They stayed there only one night, and when he went to check on them, all of them were on the mattresses as if asleep, but had died from carbon monoxide poisoning. It was due to hooking the generator up in the house. Their carbon monoxide levels were in the high 60′s range, which is nearly three times the amount that one can tolerate, I do believe.
Of course one would think it would be a very stupid and dangerous thing to do, but an accident none the less. BUT, the owner of the house, found the four dead and instead of immediately calling 911, he took the generator out of the house and put it in his garage, then called the police. It’s not looking too good for him. My mom didn’t catch what the charges for this will be or is, but I’m going to try later tonight to find updates.

This is terribly tragic and all because of the economy and a single mother can not get a break at all it seems. It pisses me off that the United States can help millions of people in other countries, but not help her own. Shame on us.  Shame on the government. And yes…I’m staying on this bandwagon.

Facebook intrusion

  • Posted on February 7, 2011 at 8:31 am

Everyone now a days…or nearly everyone, logs into Facebook and a lot of people I know spill their guts about their entire woes of life. But it’s getting to the point that I don’t even want to waste my time anymore clicking in. It seems anyone can hack, read and generally invade your private life, despite of one’s privacy settings. I’ve always told my kids what my mom told me: “Don’t put anything in writing, that you aren’t afraid to have repeated in public.” In the case of writing personal things on Facebook, the whole world can see it, and that to me is a scary thought.

Is Spring around the corner

Since good ole Phil didn’t see his shadow, they say we will have a early Spring. I wonder about this, considering Phil had to be dragged out of his warm little home, kicking and rebelling all the way. I don’t blame him…I wouldn’t have wanted to come out in this weather either. I heard today that his predictions have only been 39% right in all these years. Hmmm…makes a person wonder why in the world millions of people firmly believe in ground hogs seeing his shadow. (shaking head in wonderment.)
