Movie Channels

We used to have Netflix, but the pricing went up so we decided to cancel our membership. Most of the movie rental stores around us have closed, so we were bummed about not being able to watch movies at home anymore. My husband was researching direct TV online and found out they carry a lot of movie channels. Most of the new movies show on these movie channels and it would be almost like renting a movie. We decided go ahead and set up direct TV and I am so glad we did. We have been able to watch so many more movies. However, I am not a big fan of all of the movies my husband likes to watch and he is certainly not thrilled to watch all of my favorite movies. We can occasionally find a movie that we mutually agree on. Most of the time, however, we have to take turns picking the movies so that we do not always watch chick flicks or shoot ‘em ups. We can tolerate each others movies pretty well in small doses.

Loving Fall

Thanks for the guest post by Donn Schroeder

My daughter, the social worker, sometimes comes home for a visit. She lives in a different world than we do. She is young, single, and does whatever she wants to do whenever she wants to do it. I always feel like a tornado has come through the house after she goes back home. She and her dad seem to butt heads a lot because she takes control of the main TV in our house when she is home. And since we got DIRECTV, all her favorite shows are right at her fingertips. So trying not to create an uncomfortable situation, I go along with what she wants to watch because she does not come home that often. What I don’t understand though is how can someone who is not married be so interested in a program called The Real Housewives of every major city in the country? And, when I watch those programs with her, most of the women on there are no longer married and are definitely not housewives. Maybe she likes the idea that they are independent and won’t let anyone tell them what to do. Sounds like someone I know.

Reality shows

I’m not a great fan of television, but tonight I did watch some reality shows my friend Lindsay recommend. Fashion Runway was one since I have an interest in sewing, just like she does. Okay, I’m hooked on this one. I have to laugh about it a bit, since I missed lots of episodes. I’m sure though, there will be reruns that I can watch. That silly woman gets me hooked on the strangest things. LOL!

Mom’s Picky

The article written by Geraldo Russo

My mom is really picky about her house so when she and dad got divorced and she finally got her own place I knew it was going to be a hard, long road helping her decorate. I came down for a week to help her and we spent the whole time looking at paint samples and new furniture but I have to hand it to her, she did a really great job and the place looks amazing. I spent some time looking into utilities and HD tv for her but you know all she cared about was curtains and making sure everything was in its place. My mom’s crazy and though I hate that she and dad have split up I know it’s for the best. I really think it’s going to be a good change for the both of them and I’m excited to see where they land in the coming years. They were great parents and I know they’ll always stay friends so it’s not to awkward.

Reality shows

I was never much for the reality shows that are on television, until I started watching shows like, Project Runway. Since I sew,  I found it very interesting because of the various challenges and the unbelievable deadlines the designers have to work under. It’s great to see what they can and can’t kick out that is indeed fashion worthy. I also like Heidi Klum. At first I didn’t, but then after watching her in some of her other shows that lately have been shown on television, she is really actually very humorous and fun. I’ve gotten a lot of fashion and sewing tips from that show also, so as long at it runs, I will watch. I’m hooked. LOL!
