Guest post written by Joseph Finch We used to have Netflix, but the pricing went up so we decided to cancel our membership. Most of the movie rental stores around us have closed, so we were bummed about not being able to watch movies at home anymore. My husband was researching direct TV online and found out they carry a lot of movie channels. Most of the new movies show on these movie channels and it would be almost like renting a movie. We decided go ahead and set up direct TV and I am so glad we did. We have been able to watch so many more movies. However, I am not a big fan of all of the movies my husband likes to watch and he is certainly not thrilled to watch all of my favorite movies. We can occasionally find a movie that we mutually agree on. Most of the time, however, we have to take turns picking the movies so that we do not always watch chick flicks or shoot ‘em ups. We can tolerate each others movies pretty well in small doses.

Thanks for the guest post by Donn Schroeder My daughter, the social worker, sometimes comes home for a visit. She lives in a different world than we do. She is young, single, and does whatever she wants to do whenever she wants to do it. I always feel like a tornado has come through the house after she goes back home. She and her dad seem to butt heads a lot because she takes control of the main TV in our house when she is home. And since we got DIRECTV, all her favorite shows are right at her fingertips. So trying not to create an uncomfortable situation, I go along with what she wants to watch because she does not come home that often. What I don’t understand though is how can someone who is not married be so interested in a program called The Real Housewives of every major city in the country? And, when I watch those programs with her, most of the women on there are no longer married and are definitely not housewives. Maybe she likes the idea that they are independent and won’t let anyone tell them what to do. Sounds like someone I know.

Fashion Runway was one since I have an interest in sewing, just like she does. Okay, I’m hooked on this one. I have to laugh about it a bit, since I missed lots of episodes. I’m sure though, there will be reruns that I can watch. That silly woman gets me hooked on the strangest things. LOL!

The article written by Geraldo Russo My mom is really picky about her house so when she and dad got divorced and she finally got her own place I knew it was going to be a hard, long road helping her decorate. I came down for a week to help her and we spent the whole time looking at paint samples and new furniture but I have to hand it to her, she did a really great job and the place looks amazing. I spent some time looking into utilities and HD tv for her but you know all she cared about was curtains and making sure everything was in its place. My mom’s crazy and though I hate that she and dad have split up I know it’s for the best. I really think it’s going to be a good change for the both of them and I’m excited to see where they land in the coming years. They were great parents and I know they’ll always stay friends so it’s not to awkward.

I was never much for the reality shows that are on television, until I started watching shows like, Project Runway. Since I sew, I found it very interesting because of the various challenges and the unbelievable deadlines the designers have to work under. It’s great to see what they can and can’t kick out that is indeed fashion worthy. I also like Heidi Klum. At first I didn’t, but then after watching her in some of her other shows that lately have been shown on television, she is really actually very humorous and fun. I’ve gotten a lot of fashion and sewing tips from that show also, so as long at it runs, I will watch. I’m hooked. LOL!

I have this “thing” about a certain insurance company’s commercials. I love them. Actually, I really like some commercials. I know that it might be sort of a odd thing to like, but a person has to feel like I do on this subject. I love the glasses commercial where the lady calls her cat in, and a raccoon comes toddling into the house too! Without my glasses on, it’s no doubt something I would do! Some of these commercials are really creative, and I appreciate that!

I watched a news clip on Tots in Tiaras and was totally disgusted. I don’t believe in subjecting children to this in the first place, but this has instilled my thoughts even more. The clip was about a 2 year old being spray tanned. Not only is that bad enough, but it was being done since she was 11 months old, buy a man who is an auto body painter. The mother goes on about how the little girl really likes it, and all through this clip she is crying and trying to get away. When she finally does make a run for it, she is running through the shop and slips and falls right on her knees in what looks perhaps like water, but in a shop, one can’t be sure. All the time the little one is yelling and screaming, “Leave me alone”. This to me is abuse. Okay, so it’s my opinion indeed. But I’m not going to change my views on this. Hopefully the clip will show so ya’ll see it for yourself. Shame on those people.

All of them are at friends for the day and night and the ole man has to work tonight, so I’m going to be all alone in the house except for the animals. To be honest, I’m not sure I like it. I mean, it’s way too quiet. Of course, my son downloaded a slew of movies onto my laptop for me, “In case you get bored, Mama”. I don’t want to go anywhere, too many drunks on the road on the weekends around here. So, I’ll no doubt take a hot bath, get into comfy jammies and have a movie fest. It might do me some good to be “Home Alone”… and no folks, he didn’t download THAT movie. LOL

Authored by Greg Fletcher I think one of the best chefs to watch on television is Paula Dean. She is such a genius and was able to make her success out of nothing. I love to see all of the baking recipes that Paula Dean offers up to audiences on her shows. She now has three shows on Food Network. She has been so successful in designing her own empire and has made millions of dollars. She even sells her own line of baked goods in stores throughout the country. Overall, one of the best shows I watch on my Deals from directv is, “Paula’s Party.” I love watching this show for ideas on simple desserts to make for parties and cocktail events. As a lawyer, I am always hosting cocktail party’s at my home and always need to have plates of food out for the other attorneys. While one would think attorneys like only high class foods, the truth is that many of my colleagues prefer southern cooking that is filling. I am always sure to take some recipe ideas from Paula, before I set the menu for one of my cocktail parties. Whenever I use a recipe from Paula, I usually receive all sorts of compliments on it. I love cooking recipes made up from Paula, because she knows how to cater to the taste buds of all people!
