Everyone keeps asking me if I’m going to watch the Oscars tonight. No. I’m not into them. I don’t care what people wear on the red carpet and I don’t like to sit through long drawn thank you’s that more than always end up with the “stars” rambling on and on and giving thanks to even their mother’s obstetrician for birthing them. Okay, that is an exaggeration (sometimes? lol) but still, to me they do not even draw any appeal. I’ll watch a movie if I see some interesting previews or someone recommends it. But to watch the actors and actresses trying to out dress one another in clothes that would feed my family for a year, forget it. Of course there are some very good actors who deserve awards. But I’d rather read a good book than watch them on television.
A switch
I’ve been griping about the way our cable system for the television is for a long time, which is the same as my internet server. Problem after problem has come up and it takes forever to get to talk to a real person if I have to make a phone call to report the problem. Then there is the wait for them to DO SOMETHING about the problem. It takes an appointment for these service people to come out, which ranges from three to five days, and if they indeed come to the house they are seldom on time or we are given an 8 hour lee way as to when they might be out. I’m seriously thinking about checking out Direct TV. I mean, what could it hurt? And from the research I’ve been sort of doing, I’m trying to decide by asking various people who have it, and also reading articles and ads.
From what I can tell, by having Satellite TV the prices are a lot less expensive than what I am paying now and I’d have slew of more channels to choose from. Good movies are a must in my house and there are quite a bit of channels that have them. Unlike the carrier we now have. And to be honest, I’m a movie person and we could get the latest movies with a push of a button.
There are different packages one can buy also, in various price ranges depending on what kind of things a person likes to watch, and I like that idea. Everyone in our family has different interests and tastes in what they like to watch on television. It wouldn’t hurt to get Direct TV a shot, considering I’m not happy with what I have now and at least I could try it out first hand. The only problem I can tell I will have, is trying to decide which great package deal I want!
The sounds of Celtic Thunder
Written by my friend Judson Kelly
As a long time fan of television, it isn’t always easy to say that one thing or another is a favorite. There are so many wonderful programs that have graced the airways, including dramatic series, sports, and movies. Still, while enjoying television the other night (we were watching satellite TV from tvbydirect.com, of course) and seeing how superb the high definition resolution was, I must say that my favorite has to be the Celtic Thunder Christmas program.
I marvel at the success of Celtic Thunder and Celtic Woman, which preceded the group. These groups were put together for a show and then became bona fied groups afterward. While the original ensemble, Celtic Woman, did a holiday special a few years ago, this year it was Celtic Thunder that put on a new show for PBS, which is the station that carries all of their special TV shows.
What I love about the HD viewing is the clarity in a production show such as this one. It was playful and dramatic both, and it really drew me in. The members do lot of vocalizing as individuals, so getting the chance to see them up close and so clearly was great.
It’s the music that was super terrific. They sang some traditional songs but also some that were unique and different, so the show was modern in that sense.
Leslie and Wallace
This video is a trailer for a movie that has one of my good friends, Leslie, in it. My girlfriend plays the telephone operator. She is great – I’m so proud! I did not know this video was even on Youtube but I stumbled across it tonight and wanted to pit here to share with everyone.
A Sign They are Making Too Much Money
Companies that change names for no reason other than change make me think that they are making too much money. Let’s face it, the local cable company has a lock on the cable market and can charge whatever they want. Everyone pretty much depends on them charging a fair price and we expect them to make a fair profit. But when they change the name of the company and all the trucks have to get new signage, all the letterhead, business cards, sales collateral – everything has to be re-done – for no apparent reason, then I have to wonder if they couldn’t have made do with the old name and just given the customers a price break on our monthly bills.
