I’ve always wanted to have chickens and ducks and have been seeing a lot of advertisements about healthy Ducks for Sale. If I had a pond, I would want a few to keep for pets, but I hear tell they can get kind of mean. In my experience duck eggs though having a strong taste, are great for cooking with. While growing up I lived near a duck hatchery and my now deceased husband worked there when we were in our teens. He used to bring my mom duck eggs and she would bake with them. They made her cakes more moist and also had a richer taste than using chicken eggs.
Living just inside the towns limits even though there are Chickens for Sale and we have a two acres of land which is our back yard, we still can’t have lives stock in the city limits. Chickens and ducks are considered livestock. Living in this country setting and considering our home is surrounded by fields, this law doesn’t make much sense, but I wouldn’t want to take the chance of raising chickens since I know they would become pets and I would have to get rid of them if anyone happened to report me.
Growing up my mom would Buy Ducks and chickens. Not only did they make great pets, the gave us fresh eggs and yes, during rough times, food for the table. I wish my kids could have grown up that way.
