Friends hooked on storage units

  • Posted on April 7, 2012 at 3:53 am

A bunch of my friends know that when I go out of state for garage sales, and auctions, then rent self storage units so I can store them, until I can get the man power and time to go back and get my treasures. I even wrote about some of the places I go to in my blog recently, since it is garage sale time. My friend Destiny is using Trenton self storage units, and actually said she copied what I do. She and her mother are really into going to sales and auctions.

I visited my friend Cheryl who lives Chicago. We spent the weekend going to garage sales. She has used Chicago storage units for years. When she moved from Michigan to where she is living now, her parents had put their house up for sale, and they gave her and her daughter a whole lot of furniture. Most were big and some were antiques.

Cheryl’s daughter moved to Maryland, and Cheryl called her to tell her to come to Chicago to help her move the furniture stored. They HAD to use a Baltimore storage unit, since that is where their really big truck decided to stop running. They made a tough situation a positive one. Knowing their things were safely stored, they rented a car and a hotel room and made the whole thing into a mother and daughter adventure.

Family time and garage sales

  • Posted on April 3, 2012 at 2:37 am

After this weekend, yard sales, garage sales and barn sales will begin here. I’ve been checking out other states at a site were they cover all the big sales, all over the states. There are mega sales, that sometimes the whole town participates in. My daughters and sons are sale pros. I taught them. Actually, until they got into the high teens, they weren’t into these sales at all and would sit in the truck or just stay home if I went anywhere, since they knew I would stop at yard and garage sales if there were any, on the way to were I was going.

It is really cool now that the kids are grown. They jump at the chance to even drive me, since I can’t drive because of a back injury. Or at least I don’t like to, since it is painful. So, I have drivers! The great part is that when we go out of state, we plan on renting a hotel room and stay there while we garage sale. It’s a way to spend time with my kids and have fun at the sales. We actually check out online sites that tell what the certain sales have to offer and try to get there before they are even open, unless stated otherwise. That way we can most all the time, what we are looking for, from checking on the internet sites.

What I love are the actions that we go to. I wish I had a bigger truck on those occasions. Of course we check it out what they have in the ones that are in various states. I’ve gotten some butt kicking antiques that way. Sometimes we find whole bedroom suits that we need to store and get a few trucks together to make the trip back to get what we bought.

I always get really excited when warmer weather comes and then when the kids get out of school, or can get a break, we spend lots of fun and also get all kinds of treasures. I’m glad that they now like sales. Who doesn’t with the economy as it is and money matters being what they are. It really helps out a great deal going to these sales and auctions. It’s like a hobby for the family to do together.

All Fools Day

  • Posted on April 1, 2012 at 1:21 am

My family knows that I really don’t like this day at all. I think they wait all year to come up with harmless pranks, instead of ones that they TELL me and I’d actually believe. To me, those are the cruel kind. I have a few friends that totally ban the day and get quite angry about people trying to prank and play jokes on them. One of my close friends went through some really nasty April Fools jokes in the past that she believed and the friends who did it, let her really cry and get hysterical before they told her it was just a joke. I won’t go into it, but believe me when I say it was a very bad joke to play on a person. Me? My family knows it has to be totally harmless and something so stupid that I would fall for. Quite frankly, that could be a whole lot of things they have to choose from. I fall for the same darn thing, a lot of times before the non blonde kicks in and I realize, “Hey..this has been tried before.” Unfortunately it’s usually after the fact.

Tonight I’M going to play the Joker. All of the family are asleep, and since I’m having a rather insomniac night, I know I’m up for the duration. I thought about a lot of  silly things to do, but I wanted something that would happen to at least one of my pranksters, first thing in the morning. Sooo…I took a rubber band, and wrapped it around the kitchen sink hose handle, so it says in spray position. Heh heh heh! I know that one of them will wake up and go into the kitchen, and turn on the water as soon as he or she wakes up. It’s a sure bet. They all do it. Someone is going to get a soaking right when they wake up! Considering my water pressure is excellent, I’m sure I’m going to hear a yell, or scream if it’s my daughter, then perhaps some swear words, I won’t be pleased about, but will let pass. It’s time to release the Jester/Joker out in me this year. They will never ever expect it!!!

Storage units and storing items

  • Posted on March 29, 2012 at 9:45 pm

Because my son in law has a job that takes him basically all over, he has storage units in quite a few states. He now needs some storage units in Florida and called my daughter to tell her about some Tampa self storage units he is planning to rent for his personal tools and items he will need for his business while there, doing some of the jobs he has lined up.

Since he has his workers spread out all over the US, he has to rent units in various states for the tools and also the equipment they need. He even has units for the heavy equipment, which I didn’t even know units that big existed. My daughter told me he had his Texas crew just rent some Houston storage since they will be starting some big jobs, building two HUGH apartment complexes and it should take them most of the summer.

I personally rented some Orlando storage a year or so ago, while I was in that area. I do a lot of flea market shopping, as well as garage sales and barn sales. Every now and then I will go to antique shops and find great deals at most all of them there. It’s much better shopping down in Florida, because of the weather and the fact that there are much more sales to be had. Here we have to wait for Spring and Summer, and it makes me antsy waiting that long. The storage units are great to have, and also affordable, until I can have my boys go down with our big truck and load, then haul my treasures back home for me! It also saves my son in law lots of money, since his units are insured.

March winds late

  • Posted on March 28, 2012 at 9:22 pm

Writing the line that Dorthy said to Toto about not being in Kansas, isn’t exactly accurate, thank goodness, but the winds today were close to that of typical March winds we have around here…only at the end of the month.

A little while ago, I went out after the winds calmed a bit, and picked up a garbage bag full of trash that had flown into my yard. Along with the the paper trash from other peoples yards and such, were the kazillion leaves that had never been raked from yards all around, a garbage bin, (haven’t found the owner of that yet) a bouncie ball, and a porch chair, which wasn’t all that heavy, but still a wonderment about how strong exactly what this wind today.

I’m sure despite the fact that the wind has let up a bit, I’ll still be finding things laying about tomorrow. Hopefully I can also find the own of the trash barrel and the bouncie ball, I’ll just sit out by the road and I’m sure the owner will find it, if it was important.
