A new growth

  • Posted on August 17, 2012 at 9:28 am

Since it seems that the drought we have had all summer long is finally over, and it’s rained a great deal of late, it’s like looking at summer all over again since the new growth of grass is once again green. It is a bit too late for our poor farmers, but now at least I can walk outside barefoot and not have my feet feel like I am walking on straw.

The new growth of grass is so vibrant green, it looks so or surreal compared to the dry brown grass we have had for most of the summer. My gardens suffered tremendously through the summer though and the vegetable yield has been next to nothing. It’s too late in the year to start over again, so now all I can do is start planning for next spring.

With the new grass comes mowing, of course, and the smell of fresh mowed grass is such a welcome smell. To be honest, I don’t even mind grass being tracked in by the dog or the kids, which is saying quite a bit. I’m enjoying the last months of summer now and would like to have a end of summer yard party soon, now that the burn bans have been lifted, so we can have a fire in the fire pit.

Power was for the house

Now that summer is here, I need to get the power washer out and give this house a major bath. We live down the road from a grain mill and when the mill runs, we get the chafe and dust all over. It’s always been a problem living here.

The farm trucks and wagons will use the section of road that is dirt and gravel, to come into town and the dirt from the vehicles sort of hangs in the air when they go by, which makes for not only a dirty exterior but also inside the house, now with windows open, it’s hard to keep up with the dust that comes in.

I love to use the power washer and the outside of the house looks so nice once it’s clean. Usually it only takes a couple hours to do it the right way, so it’s that is one of the things on my list to do this weekend.
