Using travel agents to visit Kenya

  • Posted on May 15, 2012 at 9:39 am

Lately, I’ve been talking to Kenya travel agents to find out more of the place I may go to visit. I’d really love to go, as my dear friend Kirsty lives near there, and she has given me an open invitation to come to Africa whenever it is possible for me to get away for a week. I think it would be totally awesome to go to visit, and perhaps go on a safari tour, or just go to the little shops and see what kind of pretty and unique things I can find while shopping.

My friend and I met online 14 years ago, in a group that basically showed other members where we lived, and our lifestyles. It has since changed and we no longer have that group online. After Kirsty and I “met” in the group, she and a few other members decided to come visit me in my farm life community, since most of the ladies (there were 6) were basically city people.

Kirsty told me about her homeland and showed me recent photos of her new home. Her surroundings are beautiful. She also mentioned looking on the internet for Kenya travel agents who could set up tours, shopping sprees, and accommodations during my visit. I think that would be the way to do things, so I can make the most of my vacation, and see and do what I really want to do. Going to visit another Country and being out of my own Country is strange to me, but also exciting and fun.

Awesome titanium bracelets

  • Posted on April 14, 2012 at 7:22 am

Recently a friend of mine gave me two titanium bracelets to choose from and the one I chose is beautiful. I have gotten so many compliments on the piece, that I am thinking about getting my daughter one also. Of course, she isn’t a bracelet lover like I am, but she did like the style of the one I received and since her birthday is coming up, it definitely would be something she won’t be expecting and will be surprised with me buying for her.

Because of my allergy to most metals, at first I was rather leery of buying any ring or wearing any jewelery made from titanium. Until my oldest son worked as an apprentice for a high class tattoo/jewelry shop, I never  knew jewelery was even made out of titanium. I guess I lead a sheltered life or something similar. Or perhaps I just really never looked into it. He knows I am very picky about what I wear and brought me home a couple black titanium rings that I could try out, just to find out if my finger would turn green, or break out and itch, like any metal besides sterling or gold would, and if it would be compatible with my skin. I liked the ring and there was no reaction to it.

The inlaid titanium rings I found were really beautiful, and indeed my style. I was excited when I received it after shopping for it. Once again I have gotten a great deal of compliments on this piece also. They are pricey, but I think every lady deserves to buy a gift for herself once in awhile.

All Fools Day

  • Posted on April 1, 2012 at 1:21 am

My family knows that I really don’t like this day at all. I think they wait all year to come up with harmless pranks, instead of ones that they TELL me and I’d actually believe. To me, those are the cruel kind. I have a few friends that totally ban the day and get quite angry about people trying to prank and play jokes on them. One of my close friends went through some really nasty April Fools jokes in the past that she believed and the friends who did it, let her really cry and get hysterical before they told her it was just a joke. I won’t go into it, but believe me when I say it was a very bad joke to play on a person. Me? My family knows it has to be totally harmless and something so stupid that I would fall for. Quite frankly, that could be a whole lot of things they have to choose from. I fall for the same darn thing, a lot of times before the non blonde kicks in and I realize, “Hey..this has been tried before.” Unfortunately it’s usually after the fact.

Tonight I’M going to play the Joker. All of the family are asleep, and since I’m having a rather insomniac night, I know I’m up for the duration. I thought about a lot of  silly things to do, but I wanted something that would happen to at least one of my pranksters, first thing in the morning. Sooo…I took a rubber band, and wrapped it around the kitchen sink hose handle, so it says in spray position. Heh heh heh! I know that one of them will wake up and go into the kitchen, and turn on the water as soon as he or she wakes up. It’s a sure bet. They all do it. Someone is going to get a soaking right when they wake up! Considering my water pressure is excellent, I’m sure I’m going to hear a yell, or scream if it’s my daughter, then perhaps some swear words, I won’t be pleased about, but will let pass. It’s time to release the Jester/Joker out in me this year. They will never ever expect it!!!

Grand daughters awesome bunk bed

  • Posted on March 26, 2012 at 11:15 pm

My oldest daughter and her family are moving into a beautiful home in a month. My grand daughter wanted me to be, ” in charge ” of making her room into one that fit her personality, which included ideas for some awesome Girls Bunk Beds.  Of course, KK asking me to redo her room, is  very special for me. She and I have a rapport that most Grandmothers and grand children don’t have. It’s a tight bond that I am proud of. I’m not even the kind of  ” Nana ” that spoils kids. I’m just…me.

After my daughter took me to see the house, and my KK took me up to her room, I automatically thought about a site I had come across that was called, ” Bunk Beds AtoZ. “  I figured if I couldn’t find a bed KK would love there, then there wasn’t one to made that would satisfy this kid!

When I saw the various bunk beds, I knew exactly which one I wanted to buy and one that my grand daughter would go for also. She needed storage that would save space, plus the bed would have to look great. She’s not into the girly girl stuff, so this bed would be perfect. Sure enough, when KK looked at the various girls bunk beds, she picked out the one I wanted to buy for her, without knowing it was also my choice. Already my mind is thinking about sheets, a comforter, curtains, and throw rugs. I’m in my, element!

This was our choice of a bunk bed, but we indeed will paint it in her colors and it will look like a 10 or so year old, girls bed…with room to get older. She can have two friends over, who will all have a place to sleep. I’ll bet KK calls the top though!

Support the cancer fight

  • Posted on October 4, 2011 at 10:38 pm

My daughter came home from school today,  and told me that she wanted to have cancer awareness ribbons made. She has done marathon walks against cancer and for people who have cancer,  and are cancer survivors. Despite of her t-shirts she wears and the bracelets, she wants to do more…bless her heart. She is my youngest daughter and even at eighteen years old, she is so into the fight,  that it makes me proud she is the person she is and that she is aware of the importance of the issues.

My daughter has fought against cancer since she was old enough to understand the meaning of the word. Cancer, especially lung cancer runs in our family. When she came home today and said she wanted ribbons made, I had no qualms about her request at all. She is still in her senior year of high school and doesn’t have a job, so she was a bit hesitant to ask me to pay for the the making of these ribbons, but after she showed me a site that we can get them made, I was and am in full agreement and will support her request to the utmost.

My mother, my daughters Nana, is a lung cancer survivor,  This issue hits close to home. It is indeed hereditary, as MY Nana… my Mom’s mom died from lung cancer, as did her mother before her. Seems in our family it hits the oldest daughter in the generations and I am the oldest, so I try to be very careful. Still, my grandmother never smoked a cigarette in her life, so it goes to show that it can strike when least expected, even if a person leads a healthy life.  I wish I could ask everyone to get these ribbons and wear them. But I’m sure my daughter will make a campaign of it!
