Recording first Music CD

  • Posted on March 22, 2013 at 3:06 pm

My sons and their band will be going Saturday to a real recording studio to record music my oldest son has written and the band preforms. They are so “stoked” as they call it. I would take that to mean they are super excited about this project.

My brother in law set the recording session up with a friend of his, who has in the past recorded many famous and semi famous singers and bands. My brother in law himself is in a popular band and they play shows all over the US. This is indeed a good experience for my son’s and their band members. Even though the music they play is a more very heavy metal, it’s great that this man recording is more than willing to help them out.

My guys have been practicing the songs and music that they want recorded and it’s taken all of their time. I figure as long as my youngest son’s grades don’t suffer, it’s fine. Bring on the music. I can’t wait to hear about their experience when they come home from the recording session!

Better business through Explain it Videos

  • Posted on March 4, 2013 at 12:18 pm

Being the kind of person who happens to like Explain it Videos when I am online searching for items to buy, or a site that explains the person or corporation’s business and merchandise, I’ve decided I just may try this method to advertise and explain my small business. It makes perfect sense, that this way of doing the advertising through a video, would help with my business and also have a great explanation of it.

Sometimes just reading about items on line or the way a company runs,  and the values of their wares or professional advice, isn’t enough. Plus it’s totally impersonal, in my opinion. Sometimes it’s hard to get a idea of a concept of what said people are trying to get across to their clients. With a animated video, this would make it easy for me at least.

At the site illustrateitvideo.com, they can help with making a high quality video for businesses or other types of websites that need to explain what you are about and the message you want to convey, then it is embedded into your site. This is great, more personal and actually could be fun with the right video! I’m all for this and I think it would be great for generating more business and it may eliminate confusion and misunderstandings for some people.

Power outage and a caring daughter

  • Posted on February 28, 2013 at 2:54 pm

Two days ago, we got hit with one heck of a major ice, snow and rainy sleet storm. We even had thunder and lightening and sometimes it reminded me of the calm before the big cyclone, becasue it would get really still outside, everything would stop, including the wind and then a next bigger wave of nasty weather would hit.

I was home alone when the built up ice on the power lines made the power go out. We have a small generator, enough to light a few lights and run the appliances, but I have no clue how to prime it or turn it on for that matter. It is powered by gasoline, and even if I did know how to do all this, I can lay ten bucks that there is no fuel in the can. I should start taking charge of this stuff and no doubt will after this last storm. I’ll get a hold of my friend Lindsay since she is up on the survival (her own way) stuff.

I however did quite well alone with the two dogs not helping me at all. LOL! At least I saved one of the old cradle type telephones to plug into the house phone line. I guess it’s not run on electricity. At times like that, I’m glad I’m somewhat of a tidy pack rat. My daughter called and asked if I needed anything. One reply…heat just in case the power was out for a few days like during our last ice storm. Then her phone went out, before we could talk anymore.

About 45 minutes after I sort of talked to my daughter, my son in law came to my house with a really awesome heater, fuel and a bunch of scented candles that I KNOW I got for my daughter as a Christmas gift. It was so sweet of her. The next day when we talked, I thanked her for taking care of me, and her reply was, “You’ve always taken care of  me Mama, I’m glad I could take care of you.” When she came over yesterday, I gave her the candles back, since I didn’t have to use them. I had lamp oil and my own supply of candles, but it made my heart happy that I raised such a caring daughter.

The need for private tutors

  • Posted on February 14, 2013 at 8:48 pm

When my son was having problems at school with some of his classes, I had a conference with his teaches and was totally dismayed when I was told that because of lack of funding, they did not have tutors at the school as they had before in the past. I was then told that I would have to hire a private tutor and though they gave me some names and numbers, I decide to look into this subject on my own. There is more information here and I’m really glad I had a chance to check this out myself.

I am a firm believer that if a child needs more help with classes and the teachers can’t give that help, the school should have tutors since this is what our tax money is going to here…or supposed to be but apparently isn’t, as I found out. I am however glad I had the funds to get my son his own private tutor. He works better one on one and it seems that within just a few weeks his grades went up a great deal. He is able to comprehend how his tutor is explaining things to him.

I really would recommend a private tutor to anyone who has a child who is struggling with grades. It is a more personal approach to learning and even adults can get private tutors if they need them!

Seeing through hipster glasses

  • Posted on October 10, 2012 at 11:06 am

Being the kind of person who must wear glasses, doesn’t make me one that like to wear the same glasses all the time and I love variety, so when I looked at a site that had hipster glasses, I decided to check into the styles that are carried to find another pair or two. Considering the affordable prices, I’m actually thinking about a pair for each day of the week eventually, even though I know that sounds a bit like I’m over doing it on the glasses. Some people love shoes, I happen to like various glasses and sunglasses.

The company that I am contemplating getting glasses from lets you try on the glasses in the comfort of your own home and this is a great idea, since I have been known to select and buy a pair of glasses in a frame I thought I’d like, but have gotten them home and worn them a few days then hated them. With this option, one can have five different glasses sent to the house for five days to see if they are right for you!

Another wonderful feature is the Do Good program. With every pair of glasses that are sold, one pair is given to someone in need. How awesome to be sort of a part of helping others to be able to see clearly. I know it would give me a good feeling, knowing that if I bought a pair of glasses, someone else who couldn’t afford them, would get a pair.
