Beautiful weather and a good seed holder

  • Posted on May 15, 2012 at 10:40 am

I’m so happy that the beautiful weather I mentioned in a post recently, has lasted. Today, I’m going to try and clean out the eaves troughs and also pick up sticks, sweep up whirly twirleys as I call them. Those little seed pod things that come off my maple trees in zillions. They are a major pain for me.

I also have to fix the screening on the windows and vents in the attic. There are a lot of home improvements I plan on doing this year, inside and out. Money is the problem, but somehow it will come.

I never plant until after Mother’s Day, so now I’m getting all the seeds organized and put in containers instead of plastic bags and seed packets that will blow away when I lay them down next to me. The egg carton containers are really great for this, if you have heavy seeds to plant. The egg carton won’t move much.

Severe thunder storms

Generally I’m not really afraid of storms, but this one that is supposed to hit from the NW, is starting to look a bit scary. It’s really dark and there is a change of tornadoes. Course, around these parts there is always a chance of these.

I’ve got all my little survival things gathered as a just in case and bought lamp oil and extra wicks for my lamps. I’ve got and always have lots of candles, and I want to thank my Mom for the gas stove she gave me. If the power goes out, at least I can cook, so that is helpful.

I have to get a hold of a good roofer, since yesterday I noticed that there were some shingles off of the roof. We don’t need a leaking roof and ceiling, so I’m calling in the pros. This weather is so strange. Even though the sun keeps trying to shine, the weather people are insisting that we are going to get hit with a big one. Sometimes I wonder what the television forecasters actually do know about the weather or if they just are guessing.

Home Improvement

I have directv at home and I’ve been watching a lot of home improvement shows. I love that there are so many great programs on décor and redoing the backyard and everything like that because I’ve got this new house and I really want it to look good. Since I moved here I’ve been all about making this home somewhere I can be proud of, it is my first house afterall! I am so thankful the down real estate market has finally afforded me the possibility to buy a home that I can call my own. I love being a homeowner and though it’s a lot of responsibility I am really proud of myself for already making this place so great on the inside and I’m planning on having a housewarming party relatively soon to show off my work. My friends are impressed because I’m the first one of us to buy a home and you know, that feels good. It makes me feel like I’m happy I’ve done this well for myself by this young age.

Deciding on new carpet

  • Posted on January 25, 2012 at 1:31 pm

I’ve wanted new carpet in my office/sewing room for a long time. Everyone says it would be a bad idea because of pins, needles and such. I rarely drop them, and if so have a BIG magnet to pick them up.

I went to the carpet outlet store this morning, to look at various carpets, and a lady there suggested that I use indoor/outdoor carpet for this room. She sews also and since her floors get really cold, she wanted carpet in her sewing room. I saw all sort of colors and styles, but am not sure which one I would like. The plus of this carpet is, that I’ll be saving a great deal of money. It is much less expensive than other types. Even a remnant will fit this room.

I’m going to think about it, and then think also about a new paint job for the walls. I need to cheer it up in here.

Damaged mailbox epidemic

  • Posted on January 19, 2012 at 7:40 pm

I don’t know if it’s the way the weather has been, since it’s been icy and snowing most days lately, but two of my friends have had mailboxes also damaged. One of my blogging buddies, Connie had hers hit about the same time I had mine wiped out. My other friend who lives in town had his torn off his house while he was out of State on business.

I’ve gotten a replacement, but I don’t really like it. Still, it will have to do until at least Spring. The ground is too frozen now to put in another post.

I wish people would drive more carefully down this road, and slow their speed down to what it is supposed to me on this road also. This keeps costing me money and I can’t move our mail box any further from the road.
