Recording first Music CD

  • Posted on March 22, 2013 at 3:06 pm

My sons and their band will be going Saturday to a real recording studio to record music my oldest son has written and the band preforms. They are so “stoked” as they call it. I would take that to mean they are super excited about this project.

My brother in law set the recording session up with a friend of his, who has in the past recorded many famous and semi famous singers and bands. My brother in law himself is in a popular band and they play shows all over the US. This is indeed a good experience for my son’s and their band members. Even though the music they play is a more very heavy metal, it’s great that this man recording is more than willing to help them out.

My guys have been practicing the songs and music that they want recorded and it’s taken all of their time. I figure as long as my youngest son’s grades don’t suffer, it’s fine. Bring on the music. I can’t wait to hear about their experience when they come home from the recording session!

Luxury estate weddings and retreats

Being a firm and hopeless romantic, I believe that two people’s wedding should be an exceptional day that builds lasting memories. What better way to do this is to have an Estate Wedding? It is a thought that I have kicked around for my youngest daughter and her boyfriend. I could say he is herĀ  fiance, but we aren’t actually sure where this relationship is going in the long run, yet it is something to give them what would be exceptional and the memories would last forever. I personally think that after all this time has past, that they are indeed going to get married, and I’d like to start planning for it. Travel and destination is going to be first on my list!

I’ve been checking on luxury retreats for the honeymoon. I know usually the groom is supposed to plan all of this, but my daughter’s boyfriend is into showing her that he is working hard, which he does, and that he doesn’t want this wedding to be a financial burden on his parents, or our family. I’d say that he has his stuff together and that he definitely loves my daughter. I’m relived.

I’ve been putting some money aside for this wedding and also the to help with the honeymoon. Both of them deserve it and also deserve to spend it together. I’ve found also that it it isn’t as pricey as I thought it would be. No more actually, than her father and I would give in monetary gifts. So, lots of plans need to be made, since I have a feeling at the end of the month, when he comes to visit, he’s going to “pop the question.” It’s rather bitter sweet emotions that are on my mind, but then on the flip side my daughter choose a good man.

Flea and Tick allert

  • Posted on June 10, 2012 at 11:24 am

A few years ago, we had an epidemic of fleas. It was terrible and there actually was nothing we could do about it. It was county wide and when I called Nancy, who is our vet, she told me the same thing. None of the flea dips or the repellant was working on the animals. She had told me it was the worst she had ever seen in this area. Our pets were miserable, and we even lost three new born kittens to the fleas.

This year, fleas and now ticks are back. We have a batch of kittens and I had heard that Dawn dish soap could be used on them if diluted. I tried it, and it seemed to help a lot, but since they are outside with their mother, I’m sure it won’t last long, and any type of store brand treatment is too strong for them, even though they are nearly weaned.

Ticks are a major problem this year also. With the high grass along the fields and also it being very dry so far this summer, we are constantly checking our dog, since he loves to run the whole yard that boarders the fields. So now we are on tick and flea alert. I love the summer, but the nasty bugs come out and it’s expensive trying to fight a loosing battle. This situation has even made the local news, yet with no real solutions on how to fix the problem. It sure isn’t helping to have peace of mind.

Using travel agents to visit Kenya

  • Posted on May 15, 2012 at 9:39 am

Lately, I’ve been talking to Kenya travel agents to find out more of the place I may go to visit. I’d really love to go, as my dear friend Kirsty lives near there, and she has given me an open invitation to come to Africa whenever it is possible for me to get away for a week. I think it would be totally awesome to go to visit, and perhaps go on a safari tour, or just go to the little shops and see what kind of pretty and unique things I can find while shopping.

My friend and I met online 14 years ago, in a group that basically showed other members where we lived, and our lifestyles. It has since changed and we no longer have that group online. After Kirsty and I “met” in the group, she and a few other members decided to come visit me in my farm life community, since most of the ladies (there were 6) were basically city people.

Kirsty told me about her homeland and showed me recent photos of her new home. Her surroundings are beautiful. She also mentioned looking on the internet for Kenya travel agents who could set up tours, shopping sprees, and accommodations during my visit. I think that would be the way to do things, so I can make the most of my vacation, and see and do what I really want to do. Going to visit another Country and being out of my own Country is strange to me, but also exciting and fun.

Severe thunder storms

Generally I’m not really afraid of storms, but this one that is supposed to hit from the NW, is starting to look a bit scary. It’s really dark and there is a change of tornadoes. Course, around these parts there is always a chance of these.

I’ve got all my little survival things gathered as a just in case and bought lamp oil and extra wicks for my lamps. I’ve got and always have lots of candles, and I want to thank my Mom for the gas stove she gave me. If the power goes out, at least I can cook, so that is helpful.

I have to get a hold of a good roofer, since yesterday I noticed that there were some shingles off of the roof. We don’t need a leaking roof and ceiling, so I’m calling in the pros. This weather is so strange. Even though the sun keeps trying to shine, the weather people are insisting that we are going to get hit with a big one. Sometimes I wonder what the television forecasters actually do know about the weather or if they just are guessing.
