Shopping for seeds

  • Posted on April 10, 2013 at 6:14 pm

After deciding that I’ve got the “garden itch” going and the weather was dismal when I woke up, complete with thunderstorms on and off all day, I went seed shopping.

I hit a run on poppies, zinnias, cucumbers, green beans, and lots of other veggies and flowers, that were an embarrassingly low price when on sale, so I saved a great deal of money on these seeds.

I of course hit the herb section and there were loads of seeds on sale there too! I had to remember what I had already that would be coming up, and what I needed to reseed…should have brought a list, but didn’t think if it on my way out the door. I bought fennel, hyssop, lavender, four various mints, four different basil, thyme, rosemary, and the list goes on. Now I can’t wait to get out and play in the soil, enjoy the nature and be happy where I am most happy!

Dogs and weekends

With my son’s playing a show this weekend, and one of them having a new puppy, I’m elected to dog sit. We have an older dog that is my sidekick and the puppy gives him a major workout, to say the least. I don’t trust them in the house for longer than a half hour at tops. They tend to get rowdy while playing and this isn’t something good in my house full of antiques. I don’t baby proof my house and never have, so dog proofing is out of the question. They have a place they can play and rough house, it’s just getting them to stay there.  However I would like to see and hear my kids play thier music at the show, as my friend’s kids are also in the band, and they play well together. In fact very well, to get paying “gigs”.

Also there is the task of going to the grocery store and leaving the dogs all alone. I’m seriously thinking about breaking down and getting a big kennel for the pup, who is bigger than my cocker now. I know he wouldn’t like it at all and when I think of the whining and the barking that he will do, well…it isn’t good.

There is a long list I have got to get done and most of it is errands and leaving the house. As far as I’m concerned my son should start taking care of his own dog, but I knew this would happen if I allowed another dog into the house, and dumb me did it. So I think it’s sort of my responsibility also. I just have to find a way to be able to leave the dogs alone at home and that movie Home Alone keeps rung through my head. Not good. LOL

Carrying on the fly fishing tradition

  • Posted on September 28, 2012 at 2:55 pm

When I was small, my Papa would take me out fly fishing with him. It is one of my fondest memories and also one of the most happy times of my life, though I’m thankful for other memories of my grandpa. My Papa would wake me up very early, before anyone else even thought about waking up, and we would grab our poles, lunch and some kind of roll or doughnut “to go” then be off to the rivers.

Had there been internet and my grandpa had known about TridentFlyFishing.com, I’m sure he would have looked at the equipment and the fly reels that they sell, along with so much more items for those who love to fly fish. I used to love looking at the various fly reels, and also the rods. Even his tackle box was like opening a jewel case, at least to me. It still is today. I used to take out all the lures and the magical little fluttery flies, that I knew would catch some great fish if we just had the patience and casting skills. Which I learned from the best! After my grandpa passed on, I was given all of his fishing items, and I use them as much as I can, along with my items that I have collected over the years.

Today while fly fishing, I take my grand daughter out with me. I have to say that she is getting to be quite a good little fly fisher woman. I have yet to find fly rods that are just the “right” for her, but with the help of the internet and great sites, I’m getting closer and am glad I still can go online and do some shopping on a whim, since everything is right there at my fingertips that I could need. I totally plan on carrying on the fly fishing tradition that my grandfather started with me!

Shopping for wall paneling

  • Posted on September 27, 2012 at 11:00 am

My son has decided he would like to panel his room and I think that with the right kind of paneling, it would make the room look larger, and also would hide the drywall that was hung the wrong way, unfortunately. This is the kind of home improvement I like to do.

We’d also like to do away with the ceiling tiles and drop the ceiling a bit for a cleaner look than the room has now. I’m glad I come from a long line of builders, re-modelers, and carpenters. It comes in handy and the profession can also be lucrative if the job is done well.

This afternoon we are going to go to a few builders stores that are in our area and see what kind of paneling they have in stock. It’s time my son learns how to do this kind of project and he is actually looking forward to it. I think he’d be good at remodeling rooms, so he can start on his to get the hang of how it’s done.

Now using Canon MP250 ink

  • Posted on September 23, 2012 at 5:55 pm

My son gave me a printer he had, since he brought a new one that was more compatible with his computer and since this one takes Canon MP250 ink he knew I’d be happy with it.  Being rather slow in the smarts department when it comes to buying accessories for my computer, printer and even film for one of my digital cameras since I have always used older models of just about everything, I didn’t really have a clue about where to get ink and the other items, so once again I had to turn to my oldest son who knows all of these kinds of things.

For once I decided to really try to absorb this whole concept of knowing what I needed for the objects in my home that were more technical than my alarm clock! My son told me about 247 inktoner and the ink it’s self, and also how to put it in my printer for better documents and other things I wanted to print out.

I was surprised that I could find the kind of ink and toner I needed online and at a fraction of the cost it would be to buy it in a office supply store, IF they even had it in stock. This in itself was great considering the economy and how everyone can use a great savings.
