Away for the weekend

  • Posted on July 20, 2012 at 9:16 pm

My daughter and I have decided to  pack up the truck and the cooler and go for a weekend road cruise. I’m looking forward to just getting the heck out of Dodge, so to speak. I love spending time with my daughters, but my oldest can’t get away, so this will be my youngest and I going.

She and I both love venturing into antique shops and finding treasures, stopping at road side produce stands and also lets not forget garage sales, barn sales and flea markets. There are lots we can hit on the roads I have somewhat mapped out.

Mind you, we don’t really have any destination in mind and we’ve even packed sleeping bags, pillows and a wee grill, in case we find a camping place that strikes our fancy. I’m really looking forward to this and am so glad I have a daughter that loves the same things I do! This will be a holiday of sorts for us!

Luxury estate weddings and retreats

Being a firm and hopeless romantic, I believe that two people’s wedding should be an exceptional day that builds lasting memories. What better way to do this is to have an Estate Wedding? It is a thought that I have kicked around for my youngest daughter and her boyfriend. I could say he is her  fiance, but we aren’t actually sure where this relationship is going in the long run, yet it is something to give them what would be exceptional and the memories would last forever. I personally think that after all this time has past, that they are indeed going to get married, and I’d like to start planning for it. Travel and destination is going to be first on my list!

I’ve been checking on luxury retreats for the honeymoon. I know usually the groom is supposed to plan all of this, but my daughter’s boyfriend is into showing her that he is working hard, which he does, and that he doesn’t want this wedding to be a financial burden on his parents, or our family. I’d say that he has his stuff together and that he definitely loves my daughter. I’m relived.

I’ve been putting some money aside for this wedding and also the to help with the honeymoon. Both of them deserve it and also deserve to spend it together. I’ve found also that it it isn’t as pricey as I thought it would be. No more actually, than her father and I would give in monetary gifts. So, lots of plans need to be made, since I have a feeling at the end of the month, when he comes to visit, he’s going to “pop the question.” It’s rather bitter sweet emotions that are on my mind, but then on the flip side my daughter choose a good man.

Travel plans

Planning even a small vacation around here is darn near impossible, but I’m going to try and go with my sister to visit the Amish market in Pennsylvania in two weeks. We are only going to spend the weekend there and yet it will be so good to get away and also spend time with my sister. We don’t get to do this much anymore.

I love going to the markets that sell Amish quilts and baked goods, along with the crafts they make. It makes me think about the simple yet also hard life, these awesome people live, and I have great respect for them. I’m really looking forward to this mini vacation, shopping trip. I love the canned goods and other items that can be bought. With every bite of the food, or the warmth and beauty of the quilts and sewn goods, it makes me realize that all of the material things we now have, are a blessing in a way, but also have spoiled us.

I could only wish

This weather is making me want to just pack up the dog and the gear and go on a mini vacation. I’d just like to get away from it all, do a little fishing, take the dog for long walks and totally kick back. Ahhhhh!! But, unfortunately I don’t think it’s in the cards until next year.

Going for a great visit!

I’ve been planning a small vacation to visit a couple who have been friends of mine for nearly 18 years. Sadly, and at my own admission, I have never had the time or have made time, rather to go on any kind of vacation actually, and I believe this is the time to take a break and “get out of Dodge” so to speak. Besides it would be awesome to visit with Angie and her partner Darcy. They are a gay couple I met through other friends, and I love them so much! They have come here over the years, as Darcy’s parents live in about 100 miles from here. Angie has been sending me some info on the places that they would like for me to see and experience in the San Diego Hillcrest area. My gosh there is a whole lot of things do do, see and it seems like such a grand place to vacation with a pair of great friends showing me around! :)

Of course the first thing on the agenda is food! Darcy is in charge of that, and she indeed knows her restaurants! She had told me about how San Francisco loves Gay Pride and that it is about that time of year there, where one will see signs all over, and there is a Pride Parade, but that was in June, and of course I missed that unfortunately.

Angie is in charge of the gay bars, in the area.  I’m not a big time drinker anymore, but it will still be a blast going out and about with them, to visit their so called, “haunts” and I’ve been informed that it’s a great time to be had by all. This is one visit that I am totally going to enjoy I am sure. And it’s about time that I went and spent time with my two awesome friends. I can’t wait to bring home little trinkets for the kids and for my friends here too! Everyone always waits patiently when I start opening up my suitcases to see what I’ve bought home for them! I just wish I wouldn’t have missed the Pride Parade, but there is always next year.
